strange fish question

Recommended Posts

I've never developed any cravings for any flavors post-op.

But my tastes in foods have changed.

I now love broccoli, cauliflower, and brussel sprouts.

My old fast food favorites just don't taste that good anymore. (happy dance!) :-)

Bass is good. Baked in parchment paper some herbs and veggies. Also seafood. Prawns scallops mussels. You could make chicken paella with seafood added..... Yummy

I love fish! Salmon is one of my favorites, but I also like flounder. The best thing to do is research how to cook it. Fish shouldn't "smell" like fish.. it really shouldn't smell at all. Smelly fish is old fish. Try to buy fresh caught wild fish, and not farm raised. And really research how to cook it. Most fish is terrible if its overcooked. Salmon shouldn't be cooked all the way through.

Glad you enjoyed the cod! I better there are many other types of fish you'll end up enjoying too! People here have given pretty good suggestions for mild types of fish. I'll just add:

Salmon, imo, is a really good fish and extremely healthy too with so many Omega 3s in it. As someone mentioned above, BE CAREFUL not to overcook it. Overcooked salmon is gross. It should be cooked slightly past raw. When I make it at home, I sprinkle dill on and really enjoy that.

If you're ever concerned about a fishy taste, I understand you can soak fish in milk to reduce the fishiness.

Enjoy your fish! :)

We eat fish several times a week. I prefer salmon, halibut, or catfish... simply cooked. I just put a teaspoon of good olive oil in a non-stick fry pan, saute a few scallions, chopped, and a couple of cloves of garlic, minced. 30 seconds of saute, then in go the fillets. Cook about 6 minutes per inch of thickness, don't overcook. Salmon is cooked the most rare, catfish is cooked until the flesh is soft -- if a fork is resisted, cook it some more. A dash of fresh lime -- salt and pepper --- ahhhh....

My tastes did not change with WLS... but no beer etc due to carbonation increasing the pouch size, I do miss beer...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
