Pain when eat and drink 8 weeks out

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am new here. I really enjoyed reading all the interesting posts in the last 8 weeks. However now I have a question. I had surgery July 30 and really no issues until this week.

For the last few days I have been experiencing pain in my stomach after I eat or drink. I have not been as hungry or thirsty. It almost feels like a someone is squeezing my insides. Just wondering if anyone has experienced something like this or if I should be concerned if something else is going on.

Hi @@roxy78, I was sleeved on the exact same date and I can tell you that personally I've not experienced what you are. I'd definitely suggest speaking to your surgeon as soon as possible to ensure you are OK!

I had that same experience around 6-7 weeks. My doctor put me back on soft foods and I gradually added more things. I even hated drink Water. Hope you'll get this resolved soon. I know it's not fun.

I also didn't experience this. Chances are that you just need to go back to "easy" foods for a bit to let your tummy rest, but I frankly would ask your surgeon. It MIGHT be signs of a problem that should be investigated and none of us really know.

Thank you all for your responses.

I had never heard of a stricture before. Something I am just starting to read about.

I stated pain earlier but seems to be more spasm, gets real tight then releases and seem to be burping more often. Only vomited once after my Protein Shake and at the time just figured I drank the last sip a little to quick just to be done with it.

I am hoping I can tolerate till Monday when dr is back in office.

If it feels like a rolling knot that starts out you feel it coming and then it gets very strong and fades away. I had that, I took that as my stomachs way of telling me hey you put something in here. So I would drink a little Protein Drink and that feeling would go away lasted for about a week or two.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
