BMI less than 30 at start of surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm really looking to chat with some people that really didn't have much weight to loose. I started out at 197 now I'm 178. I has the surgery because of health problems. High blood pressure, borderline diabetic, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, gerd, fatty liver, hernia, and a bad heart. My cardiologist suggested that I have the surgery. Im really trying to get off all the medications and look good at the same time. I had complications after the surgery which was done on the 8th of September. I just want to know if I'm the only one out here that really had no choice to have the surgery and also don't have that much weight yo lose.

I barely made the cut off at 36. I was under the impression that most surgeons (in the U.S.) wouldn't perform surgery under 35. I am thinking that you're likely part of a very small group of BMI'ers. Are you in the states?

wait you had surgery on 9/8 and you already lost 19 lbs!?!? I was 195 when I had my surgery 8/27 and I've only lost 17lbs.. Hmmm.. I didn't have any major health problem I was just fat.

The cut off is 30... I barely made it...but I'm glad I did. I check my blood pressure everyday...so far so good. My main focus is to get off all the meds and not loose to much weight looking sick instead of sexy.lol

I'm at a stall... I had a lot of fat to loose. I'm 5"2....I lost all that at the hospital. Since I've been home. I haven't lost anything

I'm in Texas.... I had a lot of health issues which my insurance company approved it but it took a while. I had to go through a lot to get it approved. I had been trying since last year

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
