sketcher709 9 Posted September 25, 2015 Darn this place is so disorganized. I'm nervous just based on that. The surgeon I chose has an excellent reputation so I'm hoping he overcomes all. I had shoulder surgery there 3 weeks ago and it was an AWFUL experience - they put me in observation for two nights after which I did not realize meant I was not admitted. The care was lax, the pain meds did not really work for me, the ONE sympathetic nurse spent a whole 12 hour shift trying to get the resident come see me. It would have been helpful just to order my shoulder be packed in ice since I had to beg for ice every time and they would bring me one pack instead of the 4 I needed... The weight center, one hand doesn't know whatthe other is doing, a rogue psychologist (who was let go at 6 months) cost me 3 months by telling me she was required to require me to go to therapy - tried to make it sound like it wasn't her order, I do not need theray!!!!! She decided based on the fact that I had seen a therapist 25+ years ago that I need to see one now. I could not schedule an appointment until last week for follow up because the one psych that was left was booked due to having to take a this wingnuts patients.. It seems like a bunch of other things too..so 9+ months in for no good reason and I finally have an appointment with a surgeon but I'm losing confidence in this place. Anyone else have a less than organized experience here? Please tell me once the surgery part came it all fell into place!

sketcher709 9 Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) Hi, I have an appointment at the Worcester UMass weight center In December. How did everything go for you? Everything went great! The surgery was actually at Memorial hospital thank god! I've always had good experiences at Memorial. I went in Mon the 16th for surgery and everything went very smoothly. I woke up in recovery in the most pain I have ever experienced in my life, someone was right there asking me how my pain was and I swear they took care of that in about a nanosecond. I was kept in recovery for a while to make sure I tolerated the pain meds as I had told the doc up front morphne does not do much for me, oxy makes me itch...they put me on dilaudid and watched me for a while and I started to itch so they switched me to fentanyl and kept an eye on me for a while. So, I was very happy it was not at all like UMass where I was treated like a drug seeker! They brought me to my room which was a really nice room. I had a roommate but the rooms are great in that the beds were at opposite ends of the room rather than side by side. The rooms are quite large so you are a bit away from your roommate so don't hear every snore or gasp or their TV like it is right in your ear. ALL of the medical.caretaking staff were fantastic and very responsive. I still find the weight center at UMass be be disorganized but it is manageable. You just have to be patient and proactive. For example, I'm supposed to do this liquid diet for 3 weeks yet my next NUT appointment is for 5 weeks out. So, I'm supposed to call her around the 3 week mark and tell her how I'm doing and :see what she says". I constantly feel like I slip through the cracks somehow over there. It's the best thing I've ever done though. Not one second of regret! Edited November 22, 2015 by sketcher709
Ginger84 1 Posted November 23, 2015 It's great to hear that you are happy with the decision to do it there. You're experience seems generally positive. I know not everything will be perfect with anyplace but it seems that the good outweighs the bad. I appreciate your response it definitely makes me feel better about the appointment. Thanks ????
