scarlep 68 Posted September 25, 2015 I finished my 6 months req visits now I'm waiting to go sign the papers for my surgery and to get a date, and obviously to get approve from the insurance! But what happens if you gain weight between waiting and seeing the surgeon to get a date? Do they weight you when you go to the pre opt class?
The Candidate 3,215 Posted September 25, 2015 Every surgeon/insurance is different, and I was able to lose more than the ten percent required by mine. In my case there were three defining weigh in's: the weight that qualified me to start the ball rolling towards wls, the program ending weight just before approval, and finally the weigh in at the surgical consult. My surgeon made it clear that if I gained any weight between the consult and surgery dates (which was a little over a month), it could jeopardize my getting it done. This timeframe is especially important because of the liver shrinking aspect. I took that possibility to heart and went on to lose a bit more. I didn't want to take any chance of my surgery being canceled. Plus the more weight you lose as a pre op the better. I was weighed again the day before surgery at the hospital for my PREP appointment, and the day of surgery. My surgeon took the pre op weight loss very seriously, but some others are more lenient. Good luck!
