New to to Site and having Surgery on the 30th " Freaking out a little"

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am having surgery on Sept 30th, I have an issue with my liver (fatty liver) it is causing me not to loose what and they way to fix it is surgery. I like to eat healthy but I am not going to lie, not ever having ice cream or cake is kinda freaking me out that and the whole being up under and having surgery thing. I just I just need some words of wisdom from those that have been through it.

We have the same surgery day! I wouldn't try to look at it as you "can't" eat those things ever again, I would look at it as you "shouldnt" eat those things.

I'm having the rny so there's a possibility that I can't eat those but I try to see it as I don't need those things in my life anymore because they got me to where I am now, and I'm not happy! Ice cream isn't worth the sleep apnea and acid reflux I have now. I would rather be able to DO things in my life, like go hiking or fit on roller coasters than be able to eat cake again. You just have to find new things that make you feel good instead of food. It's way easier said than done but I'm sure it will be worth it!

Best of luck to you! It will all work out! If you ever need to talk I'm always here to listen!

I have had both cake and ice cream! The best part is a bite or two satisfies you and you are full.

You will feel differently about food, I have found that the taste and feel of cake is no longer appealing. It's just too sweet. Ice cream on the other hand I love but I can only eat a very small amount.

Try not to worry about those things, it is not like you can never have it again. It just may be a while and chances are you may not even like it and it may not like you.

Best wishes for a safe and speedy recovery!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
