Question pertaining to foods first two weeks

Recommended Posts

I'm at my week one mark and I was wondering is it Imperative to adhere to the broth only aspect of the foods allowed for first two weeks or can you have something like a Tomato purée Soup? The broth just bores me. Also would a scrambled egg be a no no at this point? Thanks for any imput

What does your NUT and surgeon's food plan say? I was allowed more than just broth for my one week Clear liquids phase. My second week was full liquids.< /p>

If you are unclear about what you can have why not give your NUT a call?

eggs were definitely out for me, even after being released to full foods.

eggs are some of the hardest things to digest.

I was on clear fluids, sugar free popsicles, and jell-o for the 1st week.

2nd week I was allowed full liquids - as long as there were no floating pieces in it.

Your new tummy is swollen and irritated.

You should stick to your doctor's recommended diet to allow yourself to heal.

I've see on this site that every NUT has different rules. I was ok with Tomato Soup, but not everyone may be. What helped me was getting different cans of broth based Soups and eating those, vegetable, mexican flavored ones, I got hot and sour Soup from our chinese restaurant, thai soup...I just strained everything out and had the broths. The spices were ok with me but they might not be for everyone

I am 8 days post op. My list includes greek yogurt and unsweetened apple sauce. I was going crazy with just Protein shakes, so every day I have been making egg drop Soup. I scramble two eggs and drop them into simmering broth, and add curry or some other spice. Has made everything more bearable for me. I have not had any problems.

Best of luck.

I'm 1 week post op and have been drinking chicken broth, Water, EAS low carb Protein shakes, sugar-free drinks(those little spray flavors you can add to the water), and yesterday added cream of wheat for Breakfast and Tomato Soup for lunch. I don't go up to mashed potatoes or applesauce til week 3. Also bought a snow cone machine, for shaved ice drinks! I have scored several gramma points with my grandson! :) I have V8 juice, but for some reason I just don't want it just yet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
