MeAndTinyTina 241 Posted September 23, 2015 Hi - Is anyone taking CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid - mine made from Safflower oil). I bought the GNC brand. Bottle says "Clinically proved to improve body composition". I am about 15 lbs away from my (self-imposed) goal. I started working with an exercise physiologist 11 days after my surgery. Now I am down more than 100 lbs. The even better news is that my percentage of body fat went from 49.4 to 26.0% So I have been very successful in gaining muscle while loosing the weight. judging from other people's stats on this site, I did seem to loose slower, but perhaps more steadily with less stalls. The normal body fat % for a women my age is 23-34%, so I am doing well. However, I really want to knock of the last of the excess pounds while maintaining my muscle mass. I am afraid that if I eat less, i'll start to do that. So, I bought a bottle of CLA. But of course I am now afraid to take it since I searched this site and no one has posted that they are using it. Thoughts? Ellen

jess9395 5,449 Posted September 23, 2015 No clue about CLA but you can continue to lose weight without losing muscle mass. I dropped 135lbs and down to 18% body fat so it can be done!!

MeAndTinyTina 241 Posted September 26, 2015 @@jess9395 Wow - that is a very low percentage of fat. Do you mind saying how old you are?
VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted September 26, 2015 "Clinically proved to improve body composition" Truly laughing out loud. What in the world does that actually mean?
jess9395 5,449 Posted September 26, 2015 @@jess9395 Wow - that is a very low percentage of fat. Do you mind saying how old you are? I'm 46! And post menopausal! And it's truly accurate because I had the DEXA scan as part of my pre op and then at a year out and again in June at 18 months out. Haven't had it since my plastics in June so I don't know if that had much impact, but will have it done again in December. I was lucky to get in as part of a long term study of WLS patients to study body comp post op so it's all paid for. I work really hard for it. Running 20-30 miles a week, yoga 3-4 times a week and TRX 2-3 times a week.
