I am facilitating a vision board workshop this week so I would love to hear about your experiences using this technique related to your weight loss journey. I have been thinking about making one but haven't made it yet.

Have you made one?

Has it been helpful for you?

I have never done it, but it seemed like in Weight watchers one of the techniques was kind of similar.

I don't gravitate toward "creating" this sort of thing, but i do alot of internal visioning. I read a book called "That winning feeling" and it was about using visualization and words to create the reality we want. it was about sports, but can be applied to anything. For example, a golfer can mentally visualize and practice a "perfect swing" way before, and way more consistently than they can physically do it. So the use of the visualizations combined with the physical practice is a proven way to enhance skills.

I used it to overcome fear after a horseback riding accident - consistently visualizing the outcome that i wanted.

I think I did this in weight loss too, but maybe not as consciously. I had no idea how I would turn out so to speak after losing all that weight, but I would visualize how my riding would be as a fitter person, i visualized dancing, hiking and other things that i couldn't/wouldn't do when I was obese. I do think that helped because it kept me focused on the REASON to keep my fitness at the top of my priorities.

A vision board is a tool for helping you to envision what could be/what you want your future to look like.

At its simplest, you can cut out pictures, words, phrases, and other images from magazines/print materials, and paste them onto a piece of poster board or paper. It is a creative way to gather thoughts and inspiration. For instance, related to weight loss surgery, you could cut out photos of activities you would like to do, clothes you would like to wear, places you would like to go, inspiring quotes or ideas, etc.

We had a work offsite and did vision boards. I'm not into

kumbuya kinda stuff, especially at work; therefore, it doesn't / didn't work for me. However, doesn't mean you can't pin it up on the fridge (if its small enough) as a reminder.

I made a weight tracker thing that's similar. It's on a painted canvas. There's two of them but this is what the first part looks like :). But I think I will make a vision board next!!! post-262421-14431865405722_thumb.jpg

My therapist has worked with me on making a vision board. My focus is to find things that represent the life I want once I lose the weight & along the process. I've used pinterest & magazines to find pictures. She suggested I divide my board board roughly in to mind, body, spirit sections - I may be forgetting a section. Also, I came up with a 'mantra' to add, "I have everything I need for the life I deserve." There is a picture of me in the middle of when I felt very happy.

I hope that gives you some ideas!

This sounds great. I like the structure idea.

I have been tearing out pictures for a while for my own board. Now I need to just find those and make my own board.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
