Mine was due 4 days after surgery, and I went to the bathroom after I checked in, and there it was!! Ugh!!

It really wasn't a big deal. She said it happens all the time. Let them know when you get checked in and are changing into your robe. They got me a pad and mesh panties. During surgery you'll have a catheter, but it's not a problem. Post op I was given the choice of a pad or an adult diaper. Sounds weird, but I took the diaper. I was only getting up to walk, and wasn't using the bathroom because the catheter was still in. Just made it easier.

Once the catheter came out I use my own underwear and pad/tampon as usual. I didn't get to shower until after I was discharged on day three (two nights), so bathing wipes (basically bigger sized baby wipes) were a lifesaver!!

Don't worry about it, you'll be fine :)

Thank you so much, I am nervous because I really dislike using pads and if I have to get up and walking around I am like you I would much rather use the diaper. I just hope I will either start in the next couple of days of wait until after.

You won't necessarily have a catheter. I didn't have one for my surgery. Just make them aware. No tampons though. Since you don't know when you'll have a chance to change it, and depending on your flow you don't want it staying in too long.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
