Does anyone have cigna insurance? I have it and am worried how long the precertification process takes.

I have cigna, had 3 nut classes well I did 4 just because I opted to since I was still going through counseling, sent of for approval got approval in like a day! Seriously made it so easy! They even called me today to check on me and make sure I understood where I need to go, and ask if they can call and Check on me afterwards.

This might help... https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariat. ric_surgery.pdf

But remember not all Cigna plans cover bariatric surgery. Call customer service at Cigna and ask if your plan does.

There are "greater than 89 days" of NUT visits spaced 30 days apart, so it is actually 4 visits - the first visit starts the clock and then 30 days from then, etc. (Weight Watchers / Jenny Craig, etc. counts as diet attempts as long as done in the last 6 months and monitored by a dr. I also had to have a letter from a PCP (or other dr that is not the surgeon) recommending me for surgery and the psych approval.

I also had to have a sleep study per the surgeon for sleep apnea but Cigna wouldn't approve it because they didn't feel medically necessary. They eventually did peer-to-peer consult with my surgeon and approved me for an at home sleep study. Was actually pretty convenient in the end but it was a hassle getting to that point

Having said all that, once all was done and submitted, they approved me right away (submitted Friday at noon and approval Monday morning). I had BMI over 40 AND co-morbidities so I am sure that helped.

Good luck!

My PCP has been seen me since May I saw her in May and June and I missed July because my job would not let me off work due to a shortage of staff but I saw her again in August and then I saw her again in September she documented in August that I was unable to come due to my job and every single month she highly recommended me having W LS my way obviously was documented every visit but she would only mention that we discussed diet and exercise and that was it I'm very scared that I'm going to be denied based on how vague it is although I have a letter from her office clearing me for surgery and saying that they highly recommend me do this due to my health conditions and BMI over 50 and that I've tried many failed attempts at losing weight. Even the doctor that did my sleep study put in his notes weight-loss is highly recommended I don't know if I'm up sussing over nothing or if I should be concerned but if I cannot get the surgery at the end of October due to insurance I can't have it until next year because of my job I was cleared and October but that was it

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
