Surgery on 9/9, nauseated daily

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve on 9/9 and was fine the first week. Now, I am nauseated every morning and can not keep anything down until around noon. The thought of my Protein makes me gag.

Anyone else have this problem?

Are you still taking any pain meds? They are typically the biggest culprits. Drinking Water too quickly can also exacerbate any nauseous feelings. The morphine in the hospital made me more miserable, and they kept prodding me to hit the button even though I was feeling no pain. However, you may in fact be one of the lucky people whose taste buds may be completely changing!

Are taking pepcid or another acid controlling medication? There was only one morning I woke up nauseous because I had fallen asleep without taking it the night before. Just a thought.

I DON'T KNOW IF I HAD THE SAME ISSUE BUT I WAS FURTHER INTO MY JOURNEY WHEN I FELL INTO HAVING SEVERE NAUSEA EVERY SINGLE WAKING MORNING. IT GOT SO BAD THAT I HATED WAKING UP, AND I GOT SEVERELY DEPRESSED. I WILL MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT THAT I WAS THAT WAY FOR A COUPLE MONTHS STRAIGHT AND THEN ONE MORNING I WOKE UP AND WAS FINE EVERY MORNING SINCE THEN. IT WAS THE WORST THING EVER AT THE TIME BUT NOW IT IS A DISTANT MEMORY. YOU WILL BE JUST FINE BEFORE YOU KNOW IT!

I was on omeprazole for a month after surgery. A week or two after stopping it, I started getting nauseated, experienced heartburn and threw up a few times. Called my surgeon's office and they put me back on the omeprazole and said to continue for three months.

I did for sure and it was caused by the Protein shakes! When I ate Soups that I added unflavored injury powder, though, I was fine. I've come to discover if it's Meal Replacement Protein Shakes vs. protein only shakes I'm ok. It's the added Vitamins that made me nauseous. I have to be really selective with the vitamins I take too. Some make me throw up within minutes of taking them.

vitamins are tough for me too. I just purchased the Multivitamin transdermal Patches that were delivered this morning! Yay! One thing to not have to take orally!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
