Dry skin, flakey, red, burning. My face is killing me after bypass

Recommended Posts

Thursday will be 6 weeks since my bypass. I am doing ok. I am losing steadily. My stall was only 3 days... HOWEVER....

My face is dry, red, peeling, and driving me nuts.

Nothing is helping. Everything I put on it burns.

Did anyone else have this issue, and how did you solve it?

Yes, getting up to 64 oz. of Water took me a very very long time to achieve. As soon as I did, my skin improved significantly. Water and Protein are your two best friends for healthy skin.

The other thing is Biotin has really helped both my skin and nails. I started taking it to help with hair regrow the, I am one that lost a lot of hair volume. I am shocked at how well my nails and skin have improved because of it.

After surgery, my face began to wrinkle. These were very fine wrinkles. I literally looked like I was 100 years old. My wife suggested I use a product called BioOil which is available at CVS and Walmart. It took care of the problem.

As Djmohr said the problem might be that you are not meeting your daily Fluid requirements.

It's like an actual burn on my face almost. Like its dry, and its got these raised areas that look like chemical burns. It's weird.

@@Djmohr can you talk a little more about the Biotin you're taking? I have some here, in a pill format. Can I just cut the pill in half and swallow it or do you take it in another form? Thanks in advance for the information!

@@SAD HATTER My skin has been dry my whole life due to rosacea and after surgery it got a lot worse. I'm only three weeks post-op and still dealing with it. I'm hoping that once I get my fluids up, like others have said, that it will slowly get better. I hope that you find a solution soon! :)

I actually got Biotin from Walgreens that melts on your tongue. Just ask them to help you find it. It works great and no swallowing pills.

There are some medications that can cause skin reactions like that. Off the top of my head, niacin can cause flushing, certain antibiotics and dandruff Shampoo if you get sun exposure after, and carbamazepine can cause a rash. I know there are others, too. Maybe do some research into your meds?

The only meds I am on are my multi Vitamin, and my gall bladder pill. I have to take that for 4 more months. Then I can stop it. I went to the DR and she had me use aqhaphor once a day, and at night, use a steroid cream. Today it is somewhat better. It doesn't itch near as bad, but it's still really red. This is a big improvement:11997452_10153601975950135_1069565936_n.

This is what it was on day 3:

Is the Multivitamin new to you? Many of them do have niacin in them. Might be worth discussing with your doctor. I googled it and ursodiol has also been found, rarely, to be associated with facial flushing, too.

Looks like hives to me. Sometimes I break out for no reason. Try a cool cloth, heat will make it worse if they are hives. Try benadryl also. Good luck!

Awwww, I'm so sorry! I've had skin problems before and had terrible itching all over while in the hospital (I'm four days post-op).

Everyone is giving good suggestions. Drinking Water and getting Protein, Biotin, benedryl. If it's not improving and you can't stand it, stay on your doc! Mabes ask for referral to an allergist?

Also, at home I use the most natural products I can for everything from lotion to all purpose cleaner. Read product labels and buy nothing with added fragrance. Sometimes it is listed as "parfum" in the ingredient list. Let me know if you want any product recommendations!

Good luck! I know how truly miserable itching can be. Hang in there!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
