Hi Everyone

My Names Gabby i'm 46yr old mum and grandma from York UK.

I have 3 grown up kids ages 26,25,25 yes i'm crazy having them so close together but no one plans on having twins...lol

I have three beautiful grand daughters Faith (6yrs) Paige (5yrs) and Bryony (3yrs) who i adore.

I'm waiting for my surgery date after a long wait, all pre-op testings been done and consent forms signed.

I have all the main issues qualifying me for surgery a long term issue with extra weight.

Severe sleep Apnea.

Type 2 Diabetes (pills and insulin)

whole body diabetic neuropathy

Spine surgery 9yrs ago leaving me with no feeling from waist down affecting bladder/bowel and mobility.

I use a power wheelchair outside but i can manage indoors.

I've just had my bathroom changed from a shower over the bath to a shower/wet room, I love it. I've had 8 showers since it was finished last Friday....i'm blessed it was completed before my surgery.

I'm hoping to get lots of tips and make friends here.

Welcome! What surgery are you having? I am 4 months post-op sleeve myself.

Welcome! Congratulations on your decision. Be sure all your kids and grandkids are supportive of you and will show that with actions as well as words. It's never too early to start getting accustomed to your post-op diet. If you are able to exercise and set up a program, the earlier you commit to it the more likely you are to stick with it. Best wishes!

Welcome & congratulations on taking steps to become healthier!

I too had diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, severe reflux/Gerd, stage 3 kidney disease and severe arthritis of the spine.

I still have the arthritis issues and recently had my 5th back surgery but all of my other co morbitities have disappeared completely!

I feel like my bypass surgery has given me my life back. I have never felt healthier! I can deal better now with the spine issues because I don't have all of those illnesses pulling at me on top of it.

I hope that all goes well and you get approved and scheduled soon!

Best of luck to you!

Weight Loss Surgery changed my life so dramatically -- way to go choosing yourself and your health first. Sometimes with all the other people in our lives it's hard to make it up to the top of the list, but of course every one benefits when we finally do that. I don't think I realized how much I had been hiding out in my life. Now I am really showing up and it's wonderful. You will find a lot of support on this site. Even though people have different kinds of surgeries it is basically all the same -- choosing a new path, following our doctors' instructions to the letter and learning how to live with our new bodies. Best wishes to you!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
