Bndtoslv 292 Posted September 22, 2015 Um that is great! What kind of loss were you expecting?
sbg224 318 Posted September 22, 2015 I feel the same way, I am 7 weeks today and with pre-op I am only down 34 lbs, I know we are all different, but I was hoping and expected maybe 45-50lbs by now or at 2 months out for sure. Doc said slow and steady is best, good luck. why some people lose the weight faster, who knows, body composition, starting weight, hormones, how many times you/we have lost the weight and gained, many factors, I am told. TammyDTM 391 Posted September 22, 2015 "Only" - Please, you did lose. You lost 22 pounds after surgery which probably included extra Water pounds from the saline they gave you at the hospital. What you are doing wrong is comparing yourself to others and expecting more from your body than it is capable of doing at this point in the process. Calm yourself and be patient. You will lose at your own pace whatever that may be. Your body will go through a "reset" also where you may be at the same weight for days or even weeks on end. We all go through that. It's called a stall. Browse the forums and read up on that subject before it happens to you so that you will understand it. You've only just begun. Congratulations on your weight loss and continued success!
Daisee68 2,493 Posted September 22, 2015 A) Trust me you will drive yourself crazy comparing yourself to others. Know that some weights shown on here do not tell the whole story. (Many lose before surgery so they aren't losing 50 pounds in 2 months post-surgery.) Remember this is not a diet and seeing it as something you have "failed" is much like your / our prior "diet" mentality. Are you eating healthier? Are you making better choices? Are you less obsessed with food? Are your clothes fitting better? You have to look at this as a lifetime change not a short term goal. If the scale drives you nuts, put it away. Trading one obsession for another won't work long term. Keep up the good work and keep your eye on the prize!
sleevenv 483 Posted September 22, 2015 Stop weighing yourself so often.
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted September 22, 2015 How are you failing? You lost over 20 pounds in a month's time. It sounds like you need to recalibrate your expectations. As other's have pointed out, you can't compare your progress to anyone but you. Focus on getting in your Protein and Water, and stay off the scale.

Where on earth do people get the idea that they should lose 50 lbs overnight? You guys are literally losing nearly a lb a day! Those are excellent weights. It took most of us years to gain this weight and you want it gone seemingly overnight? Relax, step away from the scale and follow your program. You are doing fine. VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted September 22, 2015 I second everyone else's reactions: From whence in hell do these expectations arise for newbies that you're going to lose any faster than you're losing now? I truly don't understand it. Here are my monthly losses: I started at 235.6 pounds. I'm 5'5" tall and was 68 years old when I had VSG surgery. Pre-op diet (my own): lost 10.6 pounds in 2 months Surgeon's pre-op diet: lost 8 pounds in 2 weeks Post-op: Month 1: lost 10.4 pounds Month 2: lost 11.8 pounds Month 3: lost 9.2 pounds Month 4: lost 10.4 pounds Month 5: lost 6.8 pounds Month 6: lost 5.0 pounds Month 7: lost 6.2 pounds Month 8: lost 4.4 pounds Month 9: lost 3.8 pounds (reached my first weight goal during this month ... at 150 pounds) Month 10: lost 1.8 pounds Month 11: lost 2.6 pounds Month 12: lost 0.6 pounds Month 13: lost 1.2 pounds I now weigh 142 pounds. Those who weighed a lot more than I did initially, men, and young people probably lost weight faster than I did. But if you're a post-menopausal woman, this is what you can expect. I might add, it's pretty amazingly wonderful to have lost 93 pounds in 13 months. I couldn't have wished for a better outcome.
Nancy Myers-Bradley 4 Posted September 22, 2015 I appreciate how you feel. I was losing so much and now, I have been stuck. But I agree that my expectations were unrealistic. I'm trying to just exercise regularly and stick with my food plan. It will come off.

IncredibleShrinkingMan 437 Posted September 22, 2015 @@sshawk69 That's pretty damn impressive. I think if you were losing much more than that you would a) be losing the wrong stuff (i.e., muscle), and setting yourself up for failure later on by damaging your metabolism. Just Celebrate the victories.

sleevenv 483 Posted September 22, 2015 @@VSGAnn2014 You ROCK! I love that at 67 you never gave up on yourself and did this. You probably feel 30 years younger and may have added 20 years to your life!
