Hello everyone! I am excited. I have set my surgery date for Oct 28th. Any tips for me before and after surgery. I know I need to go to the grocery store and gather some things.

@@kayjay14 Congratulations!!! So proud of you for taking this step!!

Going to the grocery store and gathering up your pre-op and post-op items is a great idea! Make sure you follow all of your pre-op guidelines to be that much more successful after surgery! Ask your surgeon any questions you may have, Remember that it is normal to feel worried, scared or anxious....I think most of us can say that we felt the same way, regardless of how excited we were!

I also made sure my bills were in order, laundry was done, house was clean, etc. Those things really helped me post-op, as I wasn't having to worry about them. What I wasn't able to finish, my husband and boys gladly finished for me.

For the hospital stay, you don't have to bring too much! I brought a pillow from home for comfort, some chapstick, some hand lotion and my cell phone/charger. I also brought some adult coloring books and magazines, none of which I touched for my stay there because I was forever asleep or knocked out from pain meds! I was lucky enough to get to take a shower while there, but it was very short, yet oh so relaxing. i just let the hot Water run on my back as I sat in the shower trying to stay awake! LOL So, if you can get a shower in, I would recommend it!

After surgery, your job is to heal and recover! Walk when you can as often as you can ( I should practice what I preach because I'm still too sore to move much), get your Protein, fluids and Vitamins in and try to eat every 3-4 hours. It will be hard but you gotta push through it! Let others help you when they can and allow yourself the luxury of relaxing and starting your new life! =D

So happy for you!

So I scheduled mine on Monday and she said that the earliest appointment was October 21st. The 28th was perfect for me cause I'm in a wedding on the 25th and had already bought a $180 dress and didn't want my money to go to waste. Make sure you schedule the surgery in the Window your insurance had approved. If you schedule outside that Window, then they will have to submit for insurance approval again. Hope this helps

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
