I have not even seen a DR. in regards to this surgery but I feel I want to do it. I am scared to death tho. What can you tell me or where can I go for real info.

What types of lapbands are there?

How has it been for you?

Does it really work?

Are the lifestyle changes do-able?

What are the real changes afterward?

What about all of the follow-up? How often do you have to go? HOw often to refill/unfill?

HELP!!!!!!:P

I was banded 2 years ago, I cannot tell you how happy I am now, I've lost 80lbs, If I look at my old pictures I don't even recognize my self anymore, it is a life changing experience every since my first visit to Dr. Gonzalez clinic I knew my life will be changing for the best, I'm happy now,I can actually do things with my kids, I'm not ashame to go out with my family now.

The surgery did not hurt at all, the next couple of days I remember beeing a little sore , nothing serious , got my first fill 3 weeks after and I could see the weight comming off, I had to buy my self new clothes:clap2: a month and a half after the surgery :clap2:.

If theres anything else that I can help you with contact me...I will do my best to help you to change your life for the best just like I did.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ What losing said

:welcomeB:

One good place to start is the FAQ and reference Forum

Another great thing that I did was anything I could think of that I wanted to know about, I searched. The search button is on the blue bar near the top of every page, click on it, then click Advanced Search. Then in the search box on the left side of the page, type whatever single term you want to know about, say band types. Then click on the pull down box below it and select Thread Titles Only, that will give you only the threads that are about any certain subject.

Good luck!

I too was hesitant--went to the band doc that my internist sent me to...just for info! Well I was treated like, if you want to do it--make up your mind and get started!! That was the end of March--surgery was 6/13/06 I only have one regret--I did not do it sooner...over 100lbs gone and so is all the meds (18 of them) don't worry about the nitty gritty like band size-the doc decides that when he is inside--but yolu have to be willing to make the life style commitment--without it its a no go!! the band is only a tool!! Best of luck---and an easy insurance approval!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
