blu2020 79 Posted September 21, 2015 Can anyone tell me if they know of a surgeon who will do the surgery with a BMI less then 35 with no issues. Yes, self pay! Frustrated.
SeahawksFan 444 Posted September 21, 2015 Puget Sound Surgical Center in WA state does. My surgeon was Dr. Billings and I highly recommend him. Great place and I was self pay as well. I used my health saving plan so tax free money. They require a BMI of 30 or higher. ~LA
JamieLogical 8,710 Posted September 21, 2015 If you are willing to travel out of country, you can find a lot of surgeons who will do VSG on patients with a lower BMI and you'll probably save a lot of money too! I had a great experience with my VSG in Tijuana.

Remix 153 Posted September 22, 2015 Dr. Hidalgo in Puerto vallarta Mexico did mine in July. My BMI was 30 when I started my week long pre op diet so a little under for my actual surgery. I have been very happy with my surgeon, my easy recovery and my great results (my bmi is now at 23.5 "normal"!!)

I'm having the surgery next month and my BMI is 30. I've been searching the Internet for months trying to find someone to talk to that started with a BMI of 30. JamieLogical 8,710 Posted September 22, 2015 My family has threaded my life if I go to Mexico. I'm going to assume you meant "threatened"? Anyway, this is a decision you have to make for yourself. Whether to have surgery, where to have it, and with which surgeon. You shouldn't let other people influence your decision. Thousands upon thousands of people have successful surgeries in Mexico every year. I've been to Mexico for surgery twice (once for plastics and once for VSG) and had incredibly positive experiences both times. All you can do is do the research, talk to past patients, and make the best decision for YOU, no one else.

I'm no expert as I'm only 10 weeks out but I'd be happy to share my story so far, if you like. I'm so happy I didn't wait til my weight got even more out of hand before getting this surgery. The weight was significantly impacting my life and my self esteem but now I am free from that burden. Send me a message and we can talk more if you are interested.
