So I do not own a scale!!!!! I work in a ER so I weight myself at work. I try to only weight my self 2 times a month. Once at the NUT and once at work. I got so frustrated if the scale don't move and I eat!!!!!! So I am thinking I should keep it out of my house after surgery too! I want to judge my weight loss by my new abilities and not numbers. Numbers I seem to loss my mine with! Anyone think it is a good idea or should I give in and buy one for after surgery?

Excellent idea. This way you focus on eating well & exercise, not numbers on a scale. The first 6 mths you have enough f/u appts that you will be able to track your progress and you have access to a scale at your job. However this way you don't obsess over weighing too frequently. For my first 6 mths I only got weighed at the doctors or once a month, whichever came first.

It doesn't matter what others think, it is what works for you that matters. I weigh almost every day but then I don't let the scale drive me crazy, it is just what I do before my shower when I get up.

I will say there will be times when the inches are coming off but the scale doesn't move. I would suggest taking your measurements pre-op and maybe once a month to track progress. I am so glad I took my measurements cos even when stalled I lose inches.

Good luck!!

I am a big fan of weighing infrequently. When I was at my highest weight my home scale didn't work for me so I had no choice but to weigh at the doctors. I think it really helped me, especially early out.

Now that I have lost enough for my home scale to work, I weigh no more than once a week (or less often).

I think the small, daily ups and downs are not a good indication of overall progress and I see too many people on here lose their minds over the number on the scale.

I go with the weekly weigh in approach, every Saturday in fact. Reason being, if I go up I'm able to course correct before 10 pounds shows up. I've had weeks where I went up 3 or 4 pounds, and then refocused the following week and dropped 5-8 pounds.

The scale has really helped keep me on track even in weeks where it doesn't move. If anything, when the scale goes up, it motivates me to work harder the following week, to get it to go back down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
