Radar 204 Posted September 21, 2015 Well, the day has finally arrived. I am a bit nervous about everything, but I'm moving ahead. It's funny, I've had 2 surgeries before and I wasn't nervous at all, but this one is a much bigger deal. It will literally change every aspect of my life forever. My wife is excited and happy I'm doing it, and I'm excited by the possibility of being healthier and living longer for my daughter. Anyone have advice that can get me past the jitters? Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted September 21, 2015 Best of luck. The worst part of the whole experience for me was the anticipation and taking that last step into the unknown. I was fortunate enough to have a very easy recovery. The only advice I would give is to do everything you are asked to do, even if you don't think you can and to walk as soon as possible. Keep us posted.
jturner1010 7 Posted September 21, 2015 I am so happy for you I remember not going to sleep on the day of my surgery. I wish everything go good and be ready for the next step in life ????
casper_808 44 Posted September 21, 2015 Just take deep breaths to get over the anxiety. After sugary tomorrow just walk, walk, walk. The more you walk the lass pain and faster you heal. When you are laying there in that bed and you feel like not walking because of the pain or tiredness just do it, get up and do a round or two. You will feel so much better after. Radar 204 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I actually just realized that I made a mistake. I don't know how big of a mistake it was but I had 2 Protein shakes today and I just went over the instructions and realize I was supposed to have only Clear liquids. Do you think that's going to be a problem? Now I'm more nervous than before! I did a liquid diet for all of the last 2 weeks and forgot to make it Clear Liquids. I think my liver is still smaller than it would be. Is it something I should worry about? Edited September 21, 2015 by Radar
Radar 204 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) False Alarm! I just read the instructions in my binder and they say the day before surgery I can have broth and Protein drinks so I'm good. *whew*!!! Edited September 21, 2015 by Radar

The Candidate 3,215 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) I went into mine never having had surgery before. It was a breeze. So much easier than I ever expected it to be. The recovery has gone equally well. I think you'll find that once you're there things will be moving so fast you won't have time to dwell on thoughts or fears. Be a good patient, listen, keep on top of your pain meds, and walk as much as you can, as it will make you feel better faster. Good luck!
