Well, the day has finally arrived. I am a bit nervous about everything, but I'm moving ahead. It's funny, I've had 2 surgeries before and I wasn't nervous at all, but this one is a much bigger deal. It will literally change every aspect of my life forever. My wife is excited and happy I'm doing it, and I'm excited by the possibility of being healthier and living longer for my daughter.

Anyone have advice that can get me past the jitters?

Best of luck.

The worst part of the whole experience for me was the anticipation and taking that last step into the unknown. I was fortunate enough to have a very easy recovery.

The only advice I would give is to do everything you are asked to do, even if you don't think you can and to walk as soon as possible.

Keep us posted.

Just take deep breaths to get over the anxiety. After sugary tomorrow just walk, walk, walk. The more you walk the lass pain and faster you heal. When you are laying there in that bed and you feel like not walking because of the pain or tiredness just do it, get up and do a round or two. You will feel so much better after.

I actually just realized that I made a mistake. I don't know how big of a mistake it was but I had 2 Protein shakes today and I just went over the instructions and realize I was supposed to have only Clear liquids. Do you think that's going to be a problem? Now I'm more nervous than before!

I did a liquid diet for all of the last 2 weeks and forgot to make it Clear Liquids. I think my liver is still smaller than it would be. Is it something I should worry about?

False Alarm! I just read the instructions in my binder and they say the day before surgery I can have broth and Protein drinks so I'm good. *whew*!!!

Good luck!! You will do great! My advice, the sooner you can get burping (well getting the gas out anyway you can), the better you will feel!

I went into mine never having had surgery before. It was a breeze. So much easier than I ever expected it to be. The recovery has gone equally well. I think you'll find that once you're there things will be moving so fast you won't have time to dwell on thoughts or fears. Be a good patient, listen, keep on top of your pain meds, and walk as much as you can, as it will make you feel better faster.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
