That was when I went to have my numbers checked again. There was no rush for me at the time because I was still months out from surgery. When does your doc have you getting checked again?

They would need to put the order in. I would call the office tomorrow for clarification.

With Iron, it is important to separate that from any Calcium intake, because the absorption of Iron will be inhibited. You need about a 2 hour separation in time. Since you are pre-op, you may be deriving Calcium from milk products or other natural sources or from Vitamins that contain calcium.

I was low on iron after surgery, so I moved my iron supplement to the end of the day and took it just before bedtime to get the most benefit. In your case you might take one before bedtime and the other sometime during the day when there is no conflict with calcium.

Take the Iron with citrus ie orange or grapefruit juice. It helps with absorption. FYI it's very constipating so you may need a stool softener. Ideally it's best taken on an empty stomach, but it can cause GI upset. Don't take it with dairy or Calcium as stated above. Depending on how low your levels were it may be 4-6weeks before they improve enough (it takes your body 3 months to produce red blood cells and iron is needed for manufacturing them). Hopefully you get them where you need to be soon!

So first off I would make sure you are right where you need to be prior to surgery. After surgery it's going to be harder to absorb the Iron. Going in with a deficit is the last thing you will want. Make sure you are getting iron from food not only supplements. Calcium is important too, but make sure you aren't taking them together. It's harder for some than others. Secondly, if you have already been approved I would check to see if they can schedule you now or if they want you to wait until your levels are ok.

I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow, but they canceled it Thursday. I was giving no information like when to retest or reschedule surgery. I got my approval on 9/10

When you were approved how long out did it take to get a date? I'd imagine once your levels are up they can give you a date just as quick. I have a friend who had rny about 5 years ago and has fought her Iron levels since before surgery. She has to get transfusions and takes more iron supplements than anyone I know. She has extreme health issues. Believe me when I say you really want to be right before surgery so that maintaining will be easy.

its a good thing to wait. anemia due to low Iron is dangerous. read more on that, after surgery you will lower you Iron even more.

be patient! its for your own sake.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
