I will be getting banded on Sept 28th. That's a Monday. I can work from home after the surgery for two or three days. I have a desk job, nothing physically taxing.

My question to anyone... How soon did you return to work, and what were your challenged/struggles?

Thanks! Heather

I took 2 weeks off and was bored and restless by day 3. I worked from home then (nothing physically strenuous) but if I'd been working outside my home, I probably would've longed to go home and rest after a few hours of work. And, I wasn't allowed to drive for 2 weeks - both to protect those new incisions and because I was taking a painkiller.

Some very simple, basic things were a challenge for the first month or so post-op. Like getting up out of a chair, reaching to get something out of a kitchen cupboard, lifting my little pug.

The other thing was that sleeping when I had all those new incisions was a challenge. I used pillows to support and/or take the weight off anything tender or sore, but I can't say I got a good night's rest until a month or so post-op.

I work from home and went back to work within 3 days. Much will depend on how you react to the gas they use to fill your body cavity and how you react to pain meds if you take them?

Everybody is different I was fine after a week started cleaning & doing laundry but I did have to take the pain meds for that whole week I was able to get up a little at a time after day 3 but no bending I was off of work for a month because my job is very stressful & I have to be able to lift 50 lbs so it depends on the person & what kind of job my coworker had been banded before me & she was back on day 3 but We had to help her if she needed to lift or bend I have a low tolerance to pain though .

Awesome CTJohn! I'm working frm home for two days afterwards & then back to the office. I'm hoping that's enough time I have the "option" to work from home the whole week, but you know how they tell you that, but you get the feeling they don't mean it & expect you back... Yeah, it's like that.

I was banded on the 17th of September and I thought I was good to go back on Tuesday which is today but need 2 more days. I think a week is realistic. Good luck!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
