I had my surgery at Richmond too! Yay! I'm so excited for you!

I had a great experience. All I have to say is get up and walk, walk, walk!!! So excited for you!

I had Dr Baggs too. He was so kind, took his time to talk to you on the day of surgery, swung by in the evening and then came again the next morning before I was discharged. I wasn't in the hospital for a full day (22hrs total)!

I am also going through Kaiser Richmond

when my doc sent the referral in 2 days later they called with an appointment for a week later June 11 was orientation I completed all my appointments before July .. Only appointment that stalled was my psych examine because he is part time so I had to was a month to see him. You are required to meet weight loss goals 5 pounds or so and stick to the diet .. Easy to me. After my psych examine I met the case manager 2 days later. She scheduled my surgery that day. August 12. I imagine it would be sooner than that had my psych evaluation would have been scheduled sooner. He was booked ..

Also the orientation is very informative ,, long you might get Liz she's ummm interesting .. If you have any questions ask there ... Keep your binder they give you it helps and has tons of info. You also find out who your surgeon is .. That day. My process went fast .. Everyone's process is different. It's really the psych evaluation that pro longs it if you can get a appointment before he gets booked you will be cool. Options? What is that? Didn't hear about that

I didn't have to do that. I believe it depends on insurance.

Sorry for the delay!

  • My PCP sent my referral to a Health class which I had to complete at a local Kaiser before they would send my info along to Richmond. That was Nov 2014.
  • I had my first class at Richmond (the 4 hour intro class) in January.
  • I met Dr Baggs in early Feb and given a weight loss goal.
  • Met with Dr Z. in early March (already at goal weight).
  • Liz set up my surgery in mid-April.... But Liz added me to a cancellation call list(for those who don't meet goal weight etc), so I found out on the 20th March that I was bumped up to 25th March.
  • So I had to go to my final pre-op prep class on the 24th March.
  • I went in for surgery at 1pm, 25th March... I was at home the next day before noon.
  • 3 weeks post op I saw Dr Baggs again and about a week later, Liz called and we chatted for about 30 minutes or so regarding everything.

I hope this helps!

Sure no problem. It took about 4 months from the time of getting a referral from my primary care doctor to go through all the classes-psychologist visit-information class-meeting with a case manager-losing 12 lbs to get the date. I did not have to do options. Not sure why -they never brought that up even in the information class. I am getting a gastric sleeve. Not sure if that makes a difference. I have not been on any diet. Just adding more Protein and eating healthier to lose those 12 lbs- hope that helps. good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
