Currently 4 weeks postop. Down 31 lbs. Was feeling great until this am when I had the worst Constipation I have ever had in my life. 1 dulcolax and one saline enema later and I feel like I have been run over by a truck. Any recommendations to prevent this? I'm getting plenty of fluids. As of yet I have not added extra Fiber to my diet.

I had the same thing and it was horrible, and I still have it now almost 7 weeks post op. I was told to use benefiber, prune juice and Miralax, and they do work, and a plain glycerin suppository if needed, it sounds like a lot, but it works.

I, too, have this problem at 4 weeks! Dr said MiraLax or Ducolax. But it only relieves the Constipation for a day or two and then it is back.

My doctor had me on colace stool softener or first 30 days post op. Worked like a charm. First BM on day 5 & regular every since. I would try adding something on a regular basis whether it be benefiber, miralax or prune juice. Many also like Smooth Move tea.

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on sept 8th and am still so incredibly uncomfortable, full of gas, constipated and have zero energy; I was expecting a two day stay in the hospital (mine was 4.5 days) and a smooth recovery but it's been anything but ???? has ANYONE had anything like this?! I'm having buyers remorse right now even though I know that this was the best thing I could ever do for myself! Aaaaaaaagh!

You will get more energy as time goes on and as you are able to try foods and not just liquids. I did not have any gas pain, but still dealing with Constipation at 4.5 weeks. I was only in the hospital over night.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
