Just curious if anyone gets their B12 by shots instead of the pills? I heard it's like a once a month thing but I think a shot from the doctor would be more effective than the pills?

Anyone have any experience with the shots? Should I look into getting them?

I got a package of shots from my Dr. in Mexico that he prescribed. I haven't used any of them yet. I was sleeved 7/21 and have just been taking a B complex pill and a B12 Vitamin Patch (patch MD). Ran out of Patches. Thinking I need to give myself a shot but I don't want to! Lol interested to see what people have to say about this one.

I used to get these injections at a local weight loss clinic along with Phentermine. I admit the injections, which aren't so bad, made me feel more energetic and in a better mood. I'm on the vitamin patches now but am considering going back to the injection form.

I had the shots for a year. My wife administered them once per month. But the problem is she is afraid of blood. So she would look away as she stuck the needle into me. I finally decided this was not good and switched over to a daily B12 sublingual tablet.

so we give the shots to ourselves?

I've just been using pills, as part of a B complex, since before surgery and B12 levels continue to be at the top of, or above, the normal range. Do you have any lab results that would indicate that a change in form is needed, or just a preference?

I give myself the injections. My doctor was very cool about because I didn't want to have to drive down to the office when I could do it at my convenience. She prescribed me the Vitamin & the syringes. I love them! Makes me feel better.

I give myself injections monthly. It's easier than taking an extra supplement.

You can go to a physician or a weight loss center and they can administer them for you.

I have worked in the medical field and don't have a needle fear. I actually like the idea of being able to give them to myself so I don't have to drive to the doctors every time.

I also do my own B-12 shots. My doctor gave me the option of doing it at home or coming in (bring Rx with me). I don't mind the inj. 1x a month. No big deal.

I first tried several other delivery methods, but my number was still low. My doctor said injections would be the most effective delivery method. And since doing injections, my labs always come back normal.

Btw, I get my Rx from my regular doctor, not my bariatric doctor. My "regular" doctor is a preventative specialist who runs very extensive labs for macronutrient counts (vitamins & minerals) in addition to the other sort of panels, but more in-depth than any doctor I've ever had before. It's really great information to have!

Shots are more effective simply because the Vitamins are bypassing the digestive tract all together and being absorbed through the muscle. I have had shots in the past when my Vitamin B-12 strays to the low-normal side, but I try to avoid that by getting my B12 in sublingually. I prefer Vita4Life sublinguals, and I’ve tried many. They are pleasant tasting and the company makes quality supplements. I take their Calcium and the multi-standard as well. When I placed my order last week, I was told they’re coming out with a chewable in a month or two! Have you tried a sublingual yet? You can check them out here if you haven’t. The shots are really not bad at all, but like I said, I try to avoid them by just getting my nutrients in orally. Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
