Hey there,

So just wondering if anyone else experienced the same thing I'm going through. I'm on day 8 post op and woke up this morning with a pain in my left side. Below my two incisions but before my hip. The pain seems to hurt when I move around a lot or when I cough/sneeze. I've been looking online and saw a few message boards that stated its a pretty common pain. My brain just always goes to the worst case scenario, so I'm hoping one of you may have experienced the same thing.

Thanks!

@@kradtke5 I have been dealing with this pain since Day one and I am two weeks post op. The left incision is where all of the tools go in and there is a stitch on your insides (that will dissolve) and everytime I move or walk or cough or sneeze, it feels like it's pulling/tugging/burning. It hurts to get up, it hurts to sit down, stand up, etc.

I saw my surgeon yesterday and he says this is completely normal for those who have laparoscopic bypass. For some, the pain is mild and tolerable and for others it can be worse. My surgeon told me that he does his stitch so tight to avoid bowel obstructions and things of that nature. He said the pain WILL go away and that you have to be sure that you're walking, even if it hurts.

I'd definitely still ask your surgeon about the pain, though. Some folks on here have experienced the same pain, and have had other underlying issues. I think it's better to be safe than sorry, but try not to worry about it too much or get tense..it can just lead to more pain and muscle spasms (which I had and it isn't fun!).

Take care of yourself and congrats on your journey!!! =)

Thanks for the quick response. The pain just started this morning. I noticed a bit of a stab when I was coughing. Definitely through me for a loop. It's not constant and that's a plus. I see my doctor on Tuesday for my post-op, so I figured if it's still an issue, I'll ask him then. I just really hate calling my dr and asking so many questions. His nurse and I have been emailing back and forth all week due to the random things that keep happening/questions that I have. I just don't want to be "that" patient and call for every ache and pain. :/

I think it is ok to be "that" patient! This is something we've NEVER done before and our body is experiencing so many changes and pains, that we don't know what is normal and not normal.

If it's not constant for you, that's definitely a plus. It has been constant with me (up until the last couple of days). If you can hold out until next week, then go for it! If it gets worse though, please don't hesitate to call!! That is what they are there for!! =)

HAHAHAHA

I was totally `that` patient. I am pretty darn sure my post op nurse was getting annoyed. The funny thing is, is that I too am a nurse but obviously haven`t had surgery experiences to know what all these new things with my body are.

I had this pain and it`s normal. The majority of the bypass surgery happens on the left side. I was told to take some Tylenol and still make sure I get up and moving. I found that sitting too long brought on the stitch-like-cramp so I guess some advice would be not to sit too long.

take care

and good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
