I had surgery July 15th. Starting weight was 256, surgery weight 248 and current weight is 214. I've been at a stall for 3ish weeks and it's frustrating but I know my weight has to start dropping soon! What about you?

I had my surgery October 7th 2014. My starting weight was 234 pounds I did not have a pre op diet. I now weigh 171 pounds. I have been a bit of a slow loser but I'm okay with that. I am still hoping to lose 15 more pounds and then have plastic surgery for a Tummy Tuck and a breast lift. Do you go to weight loss support group meetings and how do you like those. The couple I have gone to have not been great but they are okay.

You've done great and I'm sure you will reach your goal! I'm okay with losing slow too. I figure it will help with loose skin. I don't go to any of the support groups but know people who go and enjoy them. I used to be really fit, got pregnant and gained about 60 pounds. Even with working out and eating clean, I just couldn't manage to lose the weight. It was so depressing and I feel like I finally gave up on myself over the past year. My OBGYN finally ran tests this past March and diagnosed me with PCOS and said that's why I couldn't lose the weight all these years. So, now that I've reset my system with surgery, it's been easy to follow the diet since I normally eat clean anyway...just getting used to smaller portion sizes! I've been lurking on this site since my doctor suggested WLS and have learned a lot and find it to be a very supportive environment. I'm a little freaked out that I've been stalled this long, with my history of not being able to lose. I'm just continuing to do what I need to do and hoping the stall will break soon!

Well I think a lot of is have PCOS. I think this is why we have been a little slower to lose. I did hit a lot of stalls along the way and it was very frustrating. I did go to the nutritionist and talk to them they really never said PCOS makes tou stall more but I think it does. Are you eating or dring much dairy? That seems to stall me. We can exchange numbers if you like. I am not sure how to do that privately. I'd love to talk to someone in the area going through the same journey.

My doctor didn't seem to think PCOS would cause me to be a slow loser but I'm starting to think it may. As long as I keep dropping, I'm happy! I'm not sure how to exchange info privately on here either but we should definitely keep in touch on here!

Yeah! There are others by me. I live in Norfolk but had my surgery in Newport News with Dr. Terracina. I was hoping to find meetings on the southside because traffic to the Peninsula is so bad and it's really to far to go just for an hr meeting. I am 3 weeks post op and so far so good not issues so far. I have lost 18.2 lbs so far. I am very excited to be able to chat with others in my area!

Smb1966 that's awesome, you're doing great! You should try the support groups at Sentara Weight Loss Center in Norfolk! I agree, way too far and too much traffic to drive to NN!

I live in Yorktown and just starting the process tomorrow! I'm going to Richmond to see my surgeon. I am desperately looking for information about the "waiting period". I can't seem to get a definite answer when it comes to Anthem Health keepers plus insurance. I know they cover the surgery but I'm very impatient and don't want to have to wait!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
