Hello guys!

Today is my one month surgery anniversary. I waited all week to step on the scale because I was excited to see what it would say on the one month mark. I got up this morning and went into the bathroom to weigh myself... and was quickly disappointed. Only three pounds lost in a week and a half.

Since surgery on August 18th, I've lost 17 pounds. That's 17 pounds in over 4 weeks. I know there's nothing wrong with me, I know I'm doing everything completely by the book, I know that a lot of people lose slowly at first, and that stressing about it is silly. I know my body is still healing and I knew before going into surgery that losing this slowly or even slower was a possibility.

But, I'm saddened and frustrated anyway. I'm trying really hard to focus on the great things that are happening, such as my skin clearing up, the fact that I've lost 8 inches around my hips since starting this whole process, the fact that I had no complications and I feel great, except for getting tired easily still. But that little voice that's been with me most of my life is constantly whispering in my ear "you're screwing this up, you're doing something wrong, you're probably just lucky enough to be one of those people for whom the surgery doesn't work..." and it's so, so hard to get rid of it. Self-doubt and self-consciousness have been my constant companions for many, many years, and I'm finding it hard to kick that attitude to the curb.

Can anyone sympathize? Or empathize? How do you deal with your frustration and fears surrounding post-op weight loss? Did any of you lose this slowly?

Thank you in advance for any advice/comfort.

You are actually doing fantastic! I wish we could all lose 3lbs in a week and a half. You have to give yourself a break.

The reality is you did not put on all this weight in a month or two and it will take time to lose it all. Some weeks you will do better than others.

I seriously wish I could lose 3 lbs in a week right now. The reality is the further out you get and the closer you get to goal the slower the weight loss happens.

The good news is, every pound lost is one you won't see again.

You really are doing fantastic and you are likely losing inches. The scale is not the most important tool.

I am almost 8 weeks out. Last week, I lost only two pounds. I was bummed. My first week that I didn't lose more than 4 pounds. but you know what? I might have only lost two pounds, but I lost FOUR inches in my waist!!! So, don't let the scale have that much power over you. Even though you aren't losing pounds as fast as you want, you may be losing inches!!

I hope I can encourage you some. My loss was very similar at your stage and I too was discouraged. And @@Babbs reminded me how solid the loss was. Even the first 2 months I felt like my loss was slow but it just kept adding up and all of a sudden I am down 75 pounds (50 pounds since actual surgery). How did that happen? Like it appeared overnight, seriously. So for now, take your measurements, buy a new shirt or pants, try on your old clothes, etc. Just revel in the fact that you ARE down and GIRL you are DOWN 73 pounds??!! I know that a lot of that was before surgery, but if you can do that without your tiny pouch, you can ABSOLUTELY do this WITH your tiny pouch! It will add up. Trust that it will.

scales are lying sacks of shyte. I'm just going to say it. I've been working my @ss off(still pre op) exercising daily and my clothes are falling off especially my pants. Stepped on the scale and that piece of crap tells me I gained weight...again! Don't listen to scales, they lie! Jeans with no stretch NEVER lie! Listen to them!(sorry, I think I just put my own rant in here!)

You're doing great! It IS frustrating when you're expecting a nice drop in the scale but every single pound adds up (in a good way)!

I stalled for 2 weeks post op and that was disappointing. I've decided to focus more on how my clothes are fitting. I figure we're doing everything right, I mean something HAS to give eventually. It's just science right? It HAS to.

Enjoy the process and continue on! You're fabulous & doing such a great thing for yourself. ????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
