Alrighty ya'll got my date - October 6! I'm excited and just trying to make sure I loose my 16lbs before surgery. I start my "pre-op" diet on the 22nd and I've been drinking Premier Protein ready made shakes because I actually enjoy the taste, but lets be honest they are a bit pricey. Like $8 for a pack of 4. No bueno!

So, what all kind of Protein is everyone buying and have they found a source online that is affordable? I know everyone says their tastes change after surgery i'm probably just going to buy 2 different kinds for now, a flavored one and an unflavored one. But I need advice on what to buy and where to get it. I am thinking about going with the nectar brand but powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury looks pretty affordable too. I

Please give me some guidance! I plan on ordering today so I have enough to get me through pre op and then I'll order more right before surgery.

I am day for my pre-op and how fun it..ugh!

My nutritionist said I could drink the GNC Lean 25 shakes. They are pretty good. They have powder and pre-made. I got lucky because labor day weekend they had a bogo deal of buy one get one half off. So I made a big purchase.

They also have their gold card that is $20 for 2 years. You can get like $1 off each item you buy. So it's not a bad deal. I figured it was worth it since I knew I would be needing Protein stuff a lot going forward after surgery.

I have been using the Isopure Zero Carb powder and pre-bottled Protein from GNC. They too are pricey and I hesitated before purchasing it ($50 for large container of powder and $45 for a dozen of pre-bottled) But after I thought about it I realized these are replacing meals and $3.75 a bottle of Isopure is 1/2 or 1/3 of what I typically pay for a lunch. Just something to think of when experiencing sticker shock.

BTW - The Isopure bottled drink is 40 g of Protein and 160 calories. Because it is "clear" (meaning you can see through the liquid) and no sugar my Dr. said it would be a good drink for me to sip those frist weeks of post-surgery. The Alpine and Green Apple flavored bottled Isopures are my favorite.

Go on a tasting spree. If you can go to brick and mortar store. Buy 1 bottle of Isopure. (I like the Green Tea, Black Tea & Coconut.) Try a few single serving packs. I actually like the CVS whey in vanilla. I use it instead of cream in my coffee. There's a company on line that sells a sample pack. Everyone's taste is different, you have to see what you like. With most brick and mortar store you can return any unused portion with a receipt so save your receipts. I like using the Isopure unflavored and making my own drinks in the nutra bullet. I add a bit of fruit, a bit of spinach, some plain greek yogurt. That works for me. I also keep one or two cartoons of Orgain for on the go days. I like the Isopure because they are clear and I can dilute the in my Water. I'm mostly okay with plain Water but sometimes I want to switch up. 2 weeks before my surgery I went on a tasting spree and sampled loads of Protein powder, drinks and water. I then only bought enough to last 2 weeks postop in case my taste buds changed.

FYI - I also prefer GNC to Vitamin Shoppe. The membership is worth it in terms of the coupons and discounts you get.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
