shaming overweight people will not help them be thin. This does not work I promise. @ sleevenv I am sorry i don't agree. no one wants to be degraded or made to feel like they are stupid when they post here or maybe that is just me. I definitely am not looking for this kind of help. I wish everyone the best on your journey. There will be good days and bad days. Just Pick yourself up dust your self off and keep truck-en. @ babbs I am so proud of your journey, I know it has been tough. You have a lot to share i am sure. It is up to how you guide others. Will you empower them or knock them down. Sorry for the long post but I have always been this kind of person. My friends would tell you I live with my heart first, I am a great listener and always have great advice. I am a nurse and having a huge capacity for understanding and compassion is essential. Good luck to all. Together women can concur anything!!!!!!

Sounds tasty, but maybe a bit much :) At least it's sugar free!

I improve my shakes by adding 8oz of milk to a Pure Protein shake (chocolate) plus one scoop of chocolate whey Protein and one squirt of sugar free Torani chocolate Syrup.< /p>

I drink this over the course of an hour or so to spread the protein load over time. The body can only absorb so much protein.

I don't do this every day. This generally counts as a "brunch" for me and I'll add in something light at lunch but not much.

.

I will have to try this!! Great idea!!

I absolutely agree with Slvarltx, that certain things raise our suspicions whether a poster meant to yank our chains or not. Two of those are a very small number of posts, and a surgery day of November 1999.

We have seen posts of people eating drive-through sandwiches at three or four days out and nothing bad happened.

So while most forum contributors want to give others the benefit of the doubt, the original poster must also recognize that they are presenting something radical and contrary to sound nutritional science which will generate some concern.

Oh, and I forgot to add... add ice to this to keep it super cold and put it in a vacuum insulated container. I use a 24 oz thermos, works great and stays ice cold for way longer than I'd need to drink it.

You know how I finally got to goal? By drinking my protien shakes for 6 solid weeks after surgery because I was having problems with GERD. You don't think I was sick of the ******* protien shakes? But I still drank them because that's what I had to do. With NO ice cream!

You know how many times I've had ice cream since my surgery a year ago? One. Because I knew eating protien and veggies is more important to my health and weight loss than ice cream. Because that's what I had to do.

You know how many times I went to the gym even though I didn't want to? Hundreds. Because that's what I had to do.

Sometimes to get results in life we do what we have to do and delay gratification to get there. Putting ice cream in your protien shake because you can't stand the taste of it any more doesn't sound like someone who is willing to delay instant gratification and sacrifice some things to make the surgery successful. You have to sacrifice and deprive yourself of things you really want through this whole journey and beyond to get the results you want. When I see someone who isn't willing to do that, I see someone who will struggle. Drink the damn Protein shakes and do what you need to do to be successful.

I'm not going to condone putting ICE CREAM in your protien shakes, no matter how many times you call me rude. It's ridiculous, and the NUT who said it was okay is, quite frankly, an idiot.

You do it your way. No one asked you to support ice cream. Calm down & stop with the sarcastic demeaning comments. It holds no value & just takes up space

The first year after surgery is all about making lifestyle changes. After a year, frequent exercise and following the bariatric diet and guidelines should feel like second nature. I have gotten in the routine of only eating Protein, fruit, and vegetables. It is instinctual now to NOT reach for junk food when I'm hungry, bored, stressed, anxious, or depressed. If I got into the habit of adding ice cream to my food to add flavor, it could be the beginning of a bad habit or lead to other bad choices.

Since you are so early out, you may still lose adequate weight with milkshakes. Heck, there are plenty of people who still lose quite a bit of weight during the first year without changing their diet. They can eat Cookies and junk food and still lose weight because their restriction is so great. However, once their capacity increases after the honeymoon period, they start experiencing stalls because they never learned to change their eating habits. They are confused why they stopped losing. Well, what did you think was going to happen?

I've been on this site for over a year and observed quite a few people that received little or no education about the post op bariatric diet and lifestyle. They decide to follow the behaviors they read about here. Most of the time that is a good thing, but on a post such as this one? Not so much.

Good Luck on your weight loss journey! I know that you were only trying to help others out.

Just read on another forum about someone who 13 days post-op was so thrilled by her ability to finally drink a Protein shake that she went to the store, bought a gallon of sugar free Breyers ice cream and ate most of it. She said, "I guess I'll have days like this."

LOL! I'm sure she will.

OP, I am sorry shakes aren't working for you but you cannot honestly think eating ice cream at 3 weeks post-op is a good idea, right? At 3 1/2 months post-op I am only taking in 600is calories per day (per my NUT which frankly seems a little low but another post for another time). If I were to have a 400 calorie shake, I would pretty much be done for the day. No one here is deliberately trying to be rude or put you down, but you have to understand how ridiculous it sounds to 99% of us that not only would you be eating ice cream at this stage but that your NUT would actually approve it. My NUT, my surgeon, my therapist would all completely flip out if I told them I was eating ice cream.

We all know how tough the first month is truly, and it is so nice to find something you can finally tolerate, but I promise you that your loss is not sustainable with that kind of drink. As others pointed out, there are so many here that don't have a NUT and don't get any guidance and we just want to be sure they know that 99% of us think this is a bad idea. There was another poster a while back that at 6 twas eating bread, rice and Pasta. I am sure your NUT has told you that is a bad idea too and we told him that at that time also. Don't take offense. We are just trying to protect others who don't have a NUT guiding them.

There you go, ladies and gents. That's how it's done. @@Daisee68 has demonstrated that it is possible to be kind and thoughtful while disagreeing with a post. Snark, accusations of malfeasance, name-calling, and rudeness are not necessary to express a difference in opinion.

If you're going to make that shake. You can cut a lot of calories by using the Fat Free Fairlife.

It gives you 80 calories and 13g Protein in 1 serving

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
