I love that quote by the way. Totally going to use it.

"our" thoughts make up our opinion

your thoughts make up your opinion

we are both right

because they are "just" opinions

3/4 cup ice cream- 120 calories Protein 2g carbs 13g

1 cup Fairlife milk- 120 calories Protein 13g carbs 6g

2 scoops publix organic vanilla whey protein powder- 160 calories protein 16g carbs 3g

total- 400 calories!! protein 31g and carbs 22g

That is unfortunately way too high for me. That is half my days calories and not enough nutritional value.

As I stated, too high for me. Never said anything about you.

Per my surgeon my goal at 4 months post op with exercise is to get to 900 calories per day. Per my nutritionist, same office, she is not a fan of subtracting Fiber for net carbs so I don't.

I am exactly where I need to be. As I said, for me, I don't want a 400 calorie shake. I drink one I make ever morning and it is only 175 calories. You quoted 50 g of protein and it doesn't add up, also the body cannot absorb more than 30g at a time.

Just be careful what you quote as fact here as some don't do the research and will just eat/drink what someone says. We have a responsibility to be accurate as well as supportive.

You are always entitled to your opinion but when you posted your "shake", include the macros up front.

ockquote>

Again said you were entitled but made a suggestion to help others not so inclined to research.

Just stating facts not trying to be rude, seems you are a bit defensive and if I hurt your sensitivities I am sorry.

I still stand by my statement that 375 as you say, 400 as I added is to much for one shake.< /p>

A 12 oz McDonalds vanilla shake is :

Calories 520 Total Fat 17g 26% Carbs 80g 27% Protein 12g Sodium 260mg

11%

So other than the obvious nutrient differences, the calories are not really all that much of a savings or bang for the buck so to speak.

Just keeping it real!

Wow that's nuts. You're telling me there is not much difference. How many grams of sugar are in the McDonald's milkshake?

Geez you need to chill out..I posted everything I didn't hide anything or try to sell anything. Look it up on my fitness pal when you enter it. The shake I mentioned had nutritional including fiber which most of us seem to not get.

I'm not sensitive you came on this post with a negative attitude not even realizing that this is a healthy alternative. If you think a meal that has 375 calories a lot you're just plain crazy. It had tons of protein, very little sugar and fiber. Quite the opposite of a McDonald's shake.

Again if it doesn't work for you just don't drink it. No one cares. It might work for someone else negative Nancy maybe you can sign yourself up to be the bariatric police. Seriously.

I have never set myself to be the Bariatric Police...bahahaha

I did say if you will go back and read that "other than the obvious nutrient differences" the shakes were not that different when it came to calories. So I did acknowledge the fact that yest the McDonalds shake is not a healthy option.

It is you that needs to get the proverbial grip. Move on with your life and take a chill pill with your fabulous shake! :P

Thanks for the recipe sounds great.

I know and have read a few people such as myself becoming sick of the Protein shakes, so I decided to try and make a Protein milkshake and OMG it was the best! I highly recommend it, tastes like a McDonald's milkshake with less calories and hardly any carbs. I will say I am 3wks post op and it's tolerated very well.

For the ingredients I used 3/4 cup bryers sugar free vanilla ice cream, 1 cup low carb fairlife protein milk and 2 scoops of publix organic vanilla whey Protein powder. YUMMY 50g of protein total and you can't even taste it!

Well it had me so excited I had to share haha!

It very weird how one doc says don't eat this or that for this period of time, but another would say can. Good luck to you on figuring out what to do.

I personally did find this rude. I don't see what the OP "quoted as fact." The post was simply a recipe that the OP finds tasty and useful. It's one thing to say "it's not for me," but another to say the OP is being inaccurate or irresponsible in posting it.

I also find the oft-repeated demand to prove one's credentials by posting stats a bit offensive. It's not a contest or a caste system, with higher stat people on top and lower stat people on the bottom. To me, "requests" for stats, usually after some kind of confrontation, read more like "prove you're worthy of sharing" than "hey, how are you doing?" Just my two cents.

I hate eating my vegetables. I think I'm going to start putting a scoop of ice cream on them to make them taste better.

Thanks for the tip!

@@Babbs comments like that make me wonder why I come here to look for answers. Why do some people on here have to be so nasty? What's going on in your lives that you just can't be kind? Isn't that the purpose of this or is it to throw sarcastic comments around and mock others?

While some of the comments can come across as rude...

It is ridiculous to recommend a weight loss shake with ice cream.

A better solution would be just to add ice cubes. Period, just some ice cubes. And maybe use almond milk instead of fairlife milk because it is creamier and fewer calories.

There are a lot of people, hell basically all of us, struggling with food issues. Suggesting that an ice cream milk shake with Protein powder is okay for weight loss come across as almost a troll post. It is just self sabotage.

You have to start thinking differently about food to be successful. Not substituting bad options to make good options more palatable.

Wow this thread went bad quick. I think the op was just trying to let people have an alternative when they crave a milk shake. Like Instead of crashing your diet for the day try this.... It is so strange to me how a site ment for support and community can go so wrong sometimes. I belong to a fb group for Sept sleevers and we are all so supportive and kind to one another.:wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub::wub:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
