Mine did the leak test during the surgery as well

My surgeon did a leak test in the operating room! That's while I was asleep. He's with a bariatric center of excellence and I researched beforehand about the surgery and thought that's how it is done now.

Yeah-- to clarify what I'd said, no second leak test was done. One was done during the surgery-- however I've heard of some surgeons doing another test the next day.

Mine checked for leaks during the surgery but I also had one the morning after surgery. I wasn't allowed anything but ice chips until after I had the leak test.

My sleeve and hernia repair were done as out patient. I checked in at 6:30 am and I was home by 3pm. I was blessed with no nausea and my pain was minimal because of a numbing medication that was injected around all the incision sites, which lasted for about 4 days. I was able to sleep without interruption and monitored temperature, hubby kept my med schedule and all was great. No complaints at all.

My experience was the same as @@kimlmt . Outpatient. Leak test was done while I was still under anesthesia from the surgery. I was not released without being able to do several things like take small sips of Water and keep it down, walking without assistance, etc. I was fine when I left the surgery center. I knew, however, that if there were ANY issues, I would have been admitted to the hospital. I was also hopped up on 4 different anti-nausea meds because I have problems with anesthesia, and had also been given morphine for the pain!

This is exactly the way I was handled. During surgery and again the following morning with a barium swallow test in xray.

I was in three days. My surgery last year. was a Monday at noon and I was home on a Thursday afternoon. I had trouble with vomiting and stomach spasms, so I was glad to stay.

I was scheduled to be home within 24 hours of surgery. However, general anesthesia makes me extremely nauseous and I couldn't keep anything down. I too had a second leak test post op that went well, but my nurse was a little hesitant to send me home (almost 2 hours away) not being able to keep anything down. I was also a little concerned so she and I decided that I would stay. The next day I was ready to run home!

It seems as though every situation is different and the Dr. and nursing staff rule on the side of caution. That is very comforting for those of you who are pending surgery. If you have confidence in the surgeon you choose I would trust that he would make the right decision on when to discharge you. They do this procedure so often that I would assume they recogonize any anomaly quickly and assess the need for further hospital observation.

Like others I went home the same day but I had no issues with vomiting and tolerated walking and fluids well. I was glad to rest in my own bed and my family took great care of me. I have no doubt that had I not been doing well, I would be been kept.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
