Has anyone ever tried a turkey burger? I know I may have to eat it without the Buns, but I kind of wanted something different from the Lean Cuisine I brought for lunch. My only concern is the turkey burger will be cooked on a grill. Is this a bad idea?

This is a great question that I'd like to know the answer to as well. I'm not in this phase yet, but have been wondering if turkey items (meatballs, sausage, hot dogs, etc.) were ok to eat when I do get there.

Thanks for posting the topic! I'll be following closely :)

I didn't have Bypass but the sleeve so don't know if your program would be different or not so my answer may or may not be applicable.

I eat turkey burger patties all the time. If you are far enough along on your program to have ground meats then they are a great choice. I find that I like mine with a little bit of gravy so that they are a bit more moist than the plain ones.

I'm RNY - I eat grilled turkey burgers weekly. No bun. With cheese sometimes. I put BBQ Sauce on it because for me, I find the saucier things can be, the easier they slide down. I can't eat an entire burger either - so my 2 year old and I usually share one patty.

@Amylou: Wow, you can eat BBQ Sauce? I tried a little sauce on the tip of my finger and had a "dumping syndrome." My heart was beating really fast and I had to sit until everything calmed.

My surgeon stressed that we need to read labels carefully and not eat anything with high fructose corn Syrup. If you try a sauce, just make sure you use a BBQ sauce that doesn't have high fructose corn syrup or lots of sugar.

I've had no problem with BBQ Sauce - and I use about a tablespoon. Not a ton. The only thing I'd Dumped on was a Boathouse fruit smoothie - even though it was all natural sugar, it caused a racing heart.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
