Just wanted to share a story about today's experience, (I am 6 weeks post op.) This morning at Breakfast i had a plum and less than 5 mins. after my first few bites, it got stuck and it came back up. At lunch I had a Dannon Light & Fit Cherry Greek Yogurt. Even though i tried to chew the cherries, they must have gotten stuck because nothing else would go down, and I ended up spitting up the yogurt. I have eaten other things today and they went down fine so I know it had to be the skin. I guess I can't eat anything with skins yet. Thanks for listening.

I'm 4 weeks out and I'm terrified of this happening. I think I will probably peel any fruit or veggie I try.

I am 3 1/2 months out and my NUT told me today no fruit skins - at least for a while. I know others have said they still cannot tolerate skins a year out. May not ever be able to....

I'm 6 weeks post op, too. And I am able to eat skins on fruits ...grapes and apples are the only fruits I've tried so far, but I make sure I chew very well.

I'm 4 months out and still am told by Md office no skins on apples. I had to wait until 3 months to even have the apples according to their office. The grape skins are much thinner and seem to chop up easily when chewing. I just make sure I chew extra long when eating fruit with skins. This summer I peeled the peaches just to be on the safe side...lol

I cannot tell you how bad the pain was for nearly 24 hrs after I stupidly ate an orange. I could not move from the bed. I was 4months out. I won't make that mistake again, I can tell you that ;)

I was able to eat apples, oranges, tomatoes and grapes at around 3 months. Everyone's pouch is different. I'd wait a month or so and try again but only eat a bite or 2 and wait to see what happens. I love fruit so I'm glad my pouch isn't opposed to fruit skins.

My nutritionist said no skin for the first six months, so I have been terrified to even try it.

I am really wanting to add grapes to my chicken salad (as I did pre-op). Is it just the skins that are a bad idea? If I peel them, suppose it would be ok to add them?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
