Back to Basics

Recommended Posts

I am 5 1/2 months out and I am down 63 pounds. Everything is going really well but I've noticed I'm getting a little loose on the rules. For example I am eating too fast. Or not really wanting to wait a full 20 minutes before eating to stop drinking. Or thinking about the next meal the minute I am done the one one I am eating. So, I have decided go back to basics. My thinking is that this will be an ongoing life change and struggle and along the way there will be times to adjust and reevaluate. And this is my first one. Thanks for listening and providing any positive feedback.

Good idea! I think I got the 6 month itch too. For me, I started eating too many carbs. Then I got my blood work back and the nutritionist told me I was malnourished because I wasn't getting enough Protein. That was my wake up call to get back on the wagon. Amazingly, my weight loss increased as soon as I made that change. Those people know what they're talking about, who knew??!!

I think that is pretty typical from my experience and reading the experiences of others as well. Somewhere right around 6-7 months or so it seems that a lot of the internal healing has taken place and it becomes physically (and maybe mentally) easy to slip back into old habits. This is a pivotal point for you. You have to purpose whether you are going to continue with your new habits or slip back into old ways. I think it is so important that you have already identified this and started to get a handle on it. Good for you!

I'm happy to read that I'm not alone in this. Im almost 7 months out, losing weight and feeing great but I'm slipping just a tad on the weekends. Nothing big but it adds up and I don't want it to snowball!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
