Did your doctor say you couldnt drive for 2 weeks after surgery ?

Recommended Posts

Not specifically. I was just told not to drive as long as I was on pain medication -- which for me was one week.

Agreed, typically the no driving is due to it not being safe to drive while under pain meds. I was told 3 weeks, but at my 2 week follow up my doctor said since I wasn't on pain meds I could drive.

No, I was told I should be able to drive to my one week follow up. I stopped taking pain meds the day I came home, and was driving on 2 days after surgery.

I was driving 1 week after the surgery. I could have been driving a few days earlier if I wanted to, but chose to wait.

Do not drive while taking any narcotic pain meds..

I drove myself home from surgery, 48 hours post-op. I also made sure the nurses stopped giving me narcotics 24 hours before I knew I needed to drive. As long as you are off drugs, you're fine to drive.

Yes, but I did a week later. I returned to work a week earlier also. I was the model patient other than that LOL

The hospital said I could drive home if I wanted since I hadn't had pain meds in more than six hours or so (I think it had been 12). I declined.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
