48 hour pouch test

Recommended Posts

I am 2 1/2 yrs post op. I had lost 108 lbs. At this point in my journey I have gained back 19 lbs. this has to stop. I have a closet full of clothes that are soooooo tight, it is miserable to get dressed. I started the 48 hour pouch test today to get myself back on track. I hope to loose the 19 lbs by Dec 15.

I am telling you all this for encouragement and any suggestions on how to get through this next 48 hours.

Thank you in advance.

Good luck, but can you explain a bit more about the test?

You drink shakes for 2 days and the second day for supper you eat baked chicken. You put 8 ozs on your plate and slowly chew and eat until you feel fullness. This is supposed to reset your ability to feel restriction. I hope this helps me get back on track.

Thank you for the encouragement.

I am so sorry you are struggling! I would guess that we will all struggle with the maintenance phase at some point and I know when it happens to me, I will use the pouch test to help me.

I have not tried the pouch test at this point but have to imagine it would be harder than one thinks. I think if I had to, I would drill it into my head that I am on a preop diet and need to follow it. Tell myself I am having surgery in a few days. It would help me stay on track.

I am always reaffirming things for myself which helps me achieve my goals.

Not sure if this helps or not, you have to find what will work for you.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Congratulations on your weight loss!

I am so sorry you are unhappy with your weight gain and hope you find a workable solution.

Are you still tracking your food, especially your Protein? Have you talked with your NUT lately? I hope the porch test works for you (even though you have a sleeve and not a pouch) but would think that going back to basics would help.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Best of luck.

I did the pouch test and it works! Although be prepared for a headache the first day and feeling tired/ weak the second day (sort of like pre-op).

I have to reset again as Thanksgiving has been a nightmare!

I'll start with you today! I'm ready. I was sleeved March 2013. Went from 243 to 178. Now I'm 193!! I feel like I never got to goal and now just eat whatever whenever. Feel totally out of control. Yesterday's shopping goal was to buy m&ms for my nutcracker dispenser! Supposedly for the grandkids but in reality I have been addicted to peanut m&ms for months :(

How do you do the reset? I'm trying a 10 day smoothies cleanse and I am starving. I I'm eating way more calories on this cleanse!. March will be my 1 yr post op. I have 15 lbs to go, but I can eat as much as before and I'm always hungry. I need to try a reset!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
