I don't know where you can find actual statistics but I personally think no matter which surgery I choose to have my chances of success, failure etc lie with me and my choices.

At first I was so upset that my insurance requires a 6 month supervised diet etc. But the more I Think about it the more I realize it's a good thing because to be successful after surgery you need to change completely the way you view food and make a complete lifestyle change.

So, if you really commit and change your lifestyle and how you look at and approach eating any of the WLS surgeries can be successful.

Good luck in whatever you choose !

Disclaimer- of course different surgeries are right for different people

I think success is up to you no matter the procedure you choose.

It is definately up to you and how you build new eating habits.

Every surgery has the regain risks so you literally have to be willing to change your life to be successful long term.

I will say for me, that after working so darn hard this last year, I will do everything in my power not to have that happen. I cannot imagine watching the scale go in the wrong direction and not doing something about it immediately.

I have learned exactly what I need to do to lose this much weight and it is no picnic. My new stomach certainly makes it all achievable.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
