What to eat

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was banded on August 6 and with the pre-surgery liquid diet starting on July 21 to today, I am down 25 lbs. I haven't really lost anything over the last 2 weeks and I'm wondering if I am eating the right things. I know high protein/low carb but was hoping to find out ideas of what meals banders typically eat in a day. I have 6 cc's in my band since my first fill but don't always feel restricted. Thanks for your help!

6-8 weeks after surgery, I gained back all the weight I lost, plus put on some additional weight, from the pre and post op diets....I even had my first fill at 4 weeks after surgery and still gained. Bandster hell, hardest part of this entire procedure.

For me, it took a few good fills and some adjusting on my part to get along with what the band does. Say about 4-5 months.

Some people can loose weight with little, and even no fills. Me, I need to rely on the band 100% to do the job.

As you are her on this forum, you'll realize many people react with the band differently....

Agree with above. I never gained, but didn't really start losing until month four. Then everything changed. No hunger at all. The fact that you're down 25 is awesome!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
