What’s Your Worst Post-Op Memory (or Fear)?

Recommended Posts

I was afraid that I was making a mistake, that even after surgery I would still eat too much and not loose weight

Curious to know how that worked out for you @@Sophie74656? ????

I meant how was your will power over the desire to eat after surgery? Was it easy to not over eat?

Honestly it's been going well in that regard. I can watch people eat and it doesn't bother me. I can go grocery shopping and not drool over the Cookies and Snacks. As far as over eating, that hasn't really been an issue. I don't feel any physical hunger anymore. My only problem, and it's not a huge problem, is that my brain hasn't caught up with my smaller stomach. My brain is used to serving big portions, so the concept of feeling full after a few bites is still something it's trying to catch up with. I still tend to prepare a little too much food for myself but I have my husband finish what I can't eat

Thanks for sharing! These are definitely worth thinking about. It helps us all reflect on what went wrong and whether there’s anything to learn from it – like eating right pre or post-op – or maybe there are just certain pains and symptoms we need to wait out.

To all the pre-op patients: I hope this thread calmed you down a bit. Most of the post-op patients who shared their horror stories ended up by saying they got over whatever it was that was bothering them. It looks like a big fear is that it won´t work. Have confidence: if you follow your diet, it'll work!

Also, though I hope this discussion helped you mentally prepare for whatever may be thrown your way after surgery.

My biggest fear was that I would be lactose intolerant after surgery.

So far, so good!

I was lactose intolerant before surgery but now I can have as much as I like with no problem! Weird, right?

Thank you for answering that question because for me thinking I will over eat after being sleeved is a big concern for me. ????

Lovenox shots in the stomach... for 14 days after surgery! It was awful!

4 days post op I had internal bleeding and almost died. Rushed to hospital during a snow storm with extremely low blood pressure.

Had a second surgery that night to stop the bleeding. Still, I'd have the surgery again, even if I knew about the complication.

I remind myself to stick with the program, regularly, to justify what I went through ...

They brought my husband in too soon he said.. He said I looked so pale and tired like death.. and it made him upset.

The other worst is having my gallbladder fail and removed. That pain after gallbladder surgery was worse than my sleeve surgery!

@@Babbs DITTO!!! Constipation. The only complication I have had, but I was worried after the first and 2nd severe "bout" of it, that I would have to have it surgically removed. Can you imagine?!!! One word.....PRUNES!! :)

Worst memory? I was given a PILL by one of my nurses a couple hours after surgery. They didn't bother to check with my surgeon if it was OK, they'd have known it wasn't. I was out of it at the time, but I remember questioning it and they said the doctor said it was OK... turns out it wasn't my doctor who is a bariatric expert, but just a general doctor on call. I was really worried what it would do to me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
