Before my surgery I would get a spoonful of Peanut Butter if I were hungry or having a craving. Can we have Peanut Butter after a certain time?

Can we have sugar free pudding after some time?

Is anybody adding Protein to their fruit juice?

Lastly, my Protein shakes. Is Slim Fast Protein a suitable shake? Right now I am only drinking one a day. I have Matrix protein but I like it with low fat milk and ice.(wasn't sure if I could have that during my liquid phase.) I am concerned I not get near enough protein right now.

Thanks

Renee

Yes, you can have Peanut Butter and pudding. I don't eat Peanut Butter for the same reason I don't eat salad anymore, it's a good way for me to ingest a lot of calories with a small amount of food. (my salads are not very healthy)

Personally, I don't like the Slim Fast Protein shakes, too much sugar, not enough Protein. I like Premier Protein, 30g of protein for 160 calories. But each person finds what they like. Your nutritionist is a good person to ask for recommendations on Protein Shakes.

I could have pudding during my full liquid stage and Peanut Butter during my soft food stage. The calorie to Protein ratio for Peanut Butter is high so I don't have it regularly. I did have some today with apple slices, though.

If you really like peanut butter, you might want to consider trying adding PB2 to your Protein shakes or pudding. You can also just add Water to PB2 and eat it plain (I haven't tried it that way myself).

You asked about adding protein to juice. What kind of juice? I don't drink fruit juices because they are so high in sugar. Be sure and check with your NUT. I know that for my pre-op diet, fruit juice was strictly forbidden and post-op I was only allowed some diluted juice during the clear stages but I never drank it.

You really should speak with your nutritionist about this.

Here's what was allowed on my program.

1.Yes a tablespoon of nut butter was allowed per day. Even in the full liquids stage. I used them to take my Vitamins and supplements.

2. sugar free pudding should be allowed by the time you get to purees or soft foods.

3. I don't drink a lot of fruit juice unless it's diluted 1:3. It's really high in sugar. I have on occasion mixed unflavored protein with my water/juice for flavor.

4. Not sure but I don't think slim fast has enough protein in it for post op life. I would ask your nutritionist for guidelines on what protein powders she recommends. My wanted a specific amount of protein/carbs/sugars per serving.

You might want to start tracking using one of the online programs or apps like Myfitnesspal. This will give you a better idea of how much you are eating and the nutritional content. Post op you don't want to just guess. Tracking at least for a few months gives you a truer picture.

Everybody's dr is different. My doctor wants me to staff away from PB because it's a trigger food for me. However it was on the meal plan.

Thanks everybody! I will definitely follow up with a NUT. I met with her so early on in this process it's hard to remember everything she discussed. I started going through all the requirements in November and just had my surgery on the 8th of Sept.

I really haven't been given a whole lot of direction, I keep looking back over all my post op papers but the diet is so vague. I have been struggling with getting all my Water in. I sip most of the day but I have been sleeping a lot too. Also I can really taste a difference in the Slim Fast shake, they seem so sweet to me now. Gonna fully switch over to the Matix Protein Powder.< /p>

Today was my first time trying juice. I bought Welch's grape juice with no sugar added. I did delute it half juice and half water. I added half a portion of no flavor Protein to try to help get my protein in today. Lord I hope I didn't mess myself up by doing that.????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
