Metal taste in mouth?

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever a metallic taste in their mouth often? In the last several days it's been on and off all the time....I've suffered from pancreatitis recently and not sure if it's related....but just thought I'd check with fellow sleevers to see if anyone knows about this side effect and what it may be related to.

Thank you!

that's a pretty common side effect from ketosis, which you may well be in if you are eating low carb. Other ~pleasant side effects include bad breath, stinky BO, and weird smelling pee. On the plus side, you will be burning up those fat cells super fast.

Other than ketosis, not sure what could be causing it.

Yes, it is likely ketosis, and it will go away as your diet improves. Some diet promoters like to claim that it is the "smell of burning fat" to keep people buying their products despite the unpleasant side effects, but more accurately it is the smell of not eating your vegetables.

Thank you both so much!!! I looked it up and I think you're both correct. and I love the "smell of fat burning"..haha. It's funny...I haven't lost 1lb in almost 2 weeks....but haven't eaten any different. If anything, all of a sudden I can't eat as much without it coming up heartburn style...I take my heartburn meds every day, but man....it's like I can't eat more than 2-3 bites without stopping for an hours or so. Guess it's all part of the process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
