How calories a day?

Recommended Posts

Should we (gastric bypass) be consuming? I was never really told. Im averaging 500-700 calories a day, which includes 60 grams of Protein and about 50 oz of Water. It is the hardest to consume all 64 Oz of water, water actually hurts my stomach. Thank you ; )

you may be fine - I was in the same ballpark. I had the same question at the time because I was never told, either - the only thing they really wanted me to focus on was getting at least 60 g of Protein and 64 oz of fluids

My NUT wanted 700 cal a day, most people on forums were using 350-500, so I work toward 500. Yesterday I ate 900, I couldn't get full, today I am not hungry and have only eaten 350, but 90% of the time I eat about 500 calories with 2 Protein shakes and whatever Protein I can eat.

I have always been told not to focus on calories period, especially in the beginning. The focus must be on Protein and fluids.

1 gram of Protein for every inch you are tall minimum. If you focus on protein, the calories take care of themselves.

Now, I have always tracked my calories and at about 7 months post op I quickly learned I had to increase my input a bit as I had a long stall. I was told to add a protein heavy snack which in fact did add calories. It broke my stall.

@Veronica_mm Looks like you're about 6 weeks out. I was staying between 550-600 calories and 65-75 grams of Protein at that point. I was able to up my Protein count and keep it within the calorie range by using my Premier vanilla Protein shake as the Creamer in my decafe coffee and Protein2.0 Water helped as well. I've added a picture. Visit their website and you can put your location in and find out where you can purchase them. They average $1.99 but my local Gate gas station always has them on sale for $1.50. My faves are the berry and Grape. At 5 months post-op I'm up to 800 calories and 125 grams of protein per day. I have really thin hair to begin with and can NOT afford to lose any of it ;) Keep up the great work and Best of luck to you!

I'm 4 weeks out as well, and I was told similarly as was Djmohr. My NUT wants me to get 80g+ Protein and 64oz+ of fluids each day. And while she did give an estimated calorie count (600-900), she said not to count calories at all. That if I'm getting my 80g+ of Protein, then the calories will fall in line on their own.

The two big things to focus on are protein and fluids.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
