Stubborn Sleeve...

Recommended Posts

Hello, just throwing this out there. I have been sleeved for almost 1 year. Never do I regret my decision and I feel amazing having lost 90 pounds! At about 4.5 months, I started vomiting and had multiple gall stones so the decision was made to have my gall bladder removed. Procedure went well and recovery was no problem. But, the vomiting still continued. Recently had some more blood work and an EGD scope to look for any kinks or strictures...everything is clear. I can eat soft foods and get in a Protein shake every day to get in my nutrients. Blood work is looking normal and no major red flags. It just every time I eat really course food (chicken, pork, any breads or pastas, rice, and make sure meats are moist) I vomit. I am vigilant about taking small bits, and chew chew chew, and eat slowly. I vomit at least one time a day. Just looking to see if anyone has had any similar experiences. Meeting with Dr. this week to go over the EGD tests. Just curious...maybe I just have a stubborn sleeve!

How long are you taking between bites? Fresh from surgery I would take at least 10 minutes or longer, otherwise I would throw it up too.

I take about two minutes between bites I have an app that like rings a little bell when I'm to take a bite. My surgeon instructed us to take at least 20 minutes to eat but no more than 30 minutes.

That were my instructions as well but I was vomiting, even yogurt!! The only way I could keep food down was to wait that long. Even now 4 months out depending on how my sleeve is feeling I wait at least 5 mins. I measure everything so I don't overeat.

The best thing I've learned through this whole process is to LISTEN to my own body. It's going to do what it wants. I can go with the flow or pay the consequences. I've learned to appreciate what an awesoms machine this body is and it knows what it's doing whether I want to admit it or not.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
