Way too soon. At 3 weeks out you should be in the purée stage of your post op diet. What kind of post op diet did your surgeon give you?

No but I did 8 months post-op. I can only eat about 2 slices. I opt for the sashimi salad instead and get rid of the carbs.

I had sushi 8 weeks post op. Ordered a roll and asked if they would make it using half the amount of rice they normally would. I was only able to eat two pieces but it was heaven!

I love sushi! When I was allowed to move from puree to soft foods, we went to a sushi restaurant.

But I ate only two pieces of sashimi (no rice), about half a small bowl of miso Soup, and a piece of agadashi tofu with some of the broth. It was heavenly and I was completely full and satisfied. On my plan, I am not supposed to have rice until 6 months out, so I am avoiding the rolls for now.

I was on purees at 3 weeks. I didn't have Sushi until about 4 months out, and like the other ladies I was able to eat 2 pieces. I picked about half the rice off it, but it was still delicious.

What about the sushi with brown rice?

I would definitely say no, not at this point however I want to point out that week 3 is not always pureed foods. Every surgeon is different. I started soft foods on day 3-14 which includes things like yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, eggs and even ground turkey as long as it's chewed very well. I am on day 10 post op and doing very well with all of these items. Day 14 I get to move into regular textured foods in 2-3 ounce portions and I'm so happy to have more options. Again, everyone is on a different plan, but I think the biggest thing is don't push yourself into anything that could cause you harm or discomfort. It's not worth it. Patience will pay off in the end.

I was told the problem with rice is that it expands in your stomach. Plus, it is high carb and low Protein. I would think that would be a problem with brown rice as well as white. Although if and when I put rice back in my diet, I'll stick to brown because it does have more nutrients.

I was off of pureed by week 3 and was able to have soft textures. I also went to a sushi restaurant in my 3rd week. It really depends on what you are going to have. Better to go the sashimi route and watch out for the rice. My doc had no problem with it.

Yeah, stick with sashimi, miso, and tofu. Your stomach really shouldn't be dealing with rice at this point.

Week 4 I started soft foods. One of the first things I had was the Ahi tuna appetizer from Outback. It is basically raw tuna sliced thin. I did not eat the cabbage.

I did not have sushi with rice until more like 3 months. I generally try to avoid the rice and just go with sashimi or pick the fish off the top of the blob of rice. I prefer the fish to be sliced thinner than it is for sashimi.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
