Not feeling the urge..

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone on here had a catheter in after surgery. May be a little TMI, but I'm just curious if anyone experienced what's going on with me. I had the catheter in for almost 24 hours before it was removed. Since the removal I have been able to go but I just don't feel the urge to go. My liquid pre-op had me going all day but now it's not like that. Anyone else have this issue?

I also had a catheter for 24 hours, but my urge returned immediately. In fact I was going constantly due to all the IV fluids being pumped in.

They were actually measuring my urine at the beginning to be sure my output was adequate, as that is always a concern.

I hope yours returns soon, everyone is different. I would speak to your doctor for reassurance if you still have concerns. Good luck!

As the previous poster stated, I was going every couple hours due to iv fluids, but once I got off the iv, I only went a few times per day.

I was slow to go for a few days post-op, but once I was completely off pain meds, everything returned to natural.

I did not have a catheter (or at least if I did, it was out before I woke up in recovery) and I still had the same issues. I am 3 months out and still don't seem to get the urge. I asked my urologist about it (I have chronic kidney stones and have for years) and all she could come up with is that maybe my body was using Fluid differently? She said as long as I was drinking enough and my labs didn't look bad (and they didn't), then she wasn't worried about it. I saw a post about it here a while back where several had the same issue. Someone said their dr told them to just try to go every 2 hours and remind your body. Good advice, but can't say I remember to do it!

I'm consuming as many fluids as my body will let me at this point (a few days post op) and am still able to go. It's just weird to not feel the need to go but if I try, I can. All my blood work came back normal so I guess it's just my body being angry with me for making some changes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
