Bucket list of things to do after weight loss...

Recommended Posts

I think my Bucket List is a bit modest.

I looked forward to:

  • not having to pull my seat belt all the way out to get it to click!
  • getting up off the floor without assistance.
  • being able to walk more than 10 or 15 minutes without my feet hurting
  • being able to eat a "normal" portion of food and walk away satisfied

I had on my bucket like to be able to walk up and down the stairs with out having to hang on and hold everyone up. I am now finally able to do this, my next thing on my list is to be able to get back on a bike and ride it, even if it is just at the gym. We have already planned a cruise for next December 2016, and I want to be able to wear a dress where I don't have to wear spanks.

Hot air balloon ride, parasailing, 2017 trip to Rome, whitewater rafting, wearing a tank-style bathing suit to the beach and swim with the dolphins!

1. I want to take a picture with my husband in his police uniform and be proud to hang it up in the house.

2. We're going to Cabo in January and I want to go horseback riding on the beach and swimming with the dolphins.

3. I want to be able to open my closet door and have my pick of anything hanging up - without worrying what will still fit.

4. Run a Disney half-marathon or full marathon with friends.

5. Be able to wear a bathing suit and not feel like everyone is laughing at me.

I want to travel to Arizona and go on a three day hike to all the beautiful blue-green waterfalls on the Havasupai reservation. You have to hike about 8 miles to get to them and in my current state, it's out of the question. I can't wait to swim in those beautiful waters!! Also getting through a whole Zumba class without stopping to rest and shopping, Shopping and more SHOPPING in "normal" stores :)

Went boating with my family. They have had their boat for years and I never went because I was too embarrassed to wear a swimsuit. I also took my kids to a Water park. :)

Bucket list:

Shop in normal stores. Check!

Start swimming and running again.

Hike with my kids. Check!

Go on a singles cruise

Start dating again. Check!

Wear heels again. Check!

I have always wanted to travel to Europe, but I was afraid I would be too tired or not be able to be accommodated well due to my size. I am only 5 months out now, feeling GREAT and I just booked a Europe trip next summer for myself and my husband. Here's to celebrating new life!

Lived in Alaska for 30 years, only hiked one mountain and just started very easy biking trails. After surgery, I want to hike many more mountains, deep sea fishing, vacation out of the country, triathlon....that's all for now ;)

  • I'm really excited to go skydiving (I know that I could've gone at my higher weight - but I am saving it as a reward)!!
Also excited to go to theme parks and never have to wonder whether I'll fit in the seats.

I had many things I wanted to do, have done them, and sometimes still marvel that I can do the most simple things that people who have never been obese take for granted. I still feel like I've been given a gift and I'm grateful, but for me, it's the feeling that I am ENTITLED to do these things, just like anyone, that is the most empowering.

  • Be normal and average, or basic, as my kids say ;)
  • fly without fear of not fitting in seats
  • ride roller coasters, same reason
  • attend summer outdoor gatherings with cheap plastic chairs
  • not have to scope out restaurant seating beforehand to decide if I could go due to seating
  • shop in boutiques and stores that only care small sizes
  • walk/run 5K with friends/family
  • feel free to seek new career opportunities

Not much of a bucket list, I know. But all of that is the foundation to be able to do what I want, when I want, and how I want without the ball and chain of obesity and everything that comes with it. I am now free to do anything that comes up, with or without planning for it. Such freedom is truly a gift!

-get through an entire soccer game without needing to sub out

-go to business functions and being satisfied with the delicate little portions served instead of dreaming of hoagies later

-getting all the way to work without bringing a beach towel to absorb sweat

-maybe a 5K, 10K, etc..., and actually run it

-going in the pool without a shirt

My bucket list starts off fairly simple.

I want to be able to have kids before I get too old. I'm 38 now.

I want to fly and go places without worrying about..will I fit in seats, will they hold my weight?

I want to go out and get attention from people cos I look good..not because I'm fat, can hardly breath and take up too much room.

I want to feel confident and not give a hoot as to what folk think.

I want to go shop for clothes and chose what I want to wear rather than having to wear it cos it fits.

I want to be able to:

Not worry about if a seat will hold me.

Go into any store to shop.

Ride amusement park rides.

Not get winded after 1 flight of stairs.

Run a 5k.

Go for a run and actually run.

Be able to bend over and tie my shoes or paint my toes without discomfort.

Be happy and confident in a wedding dress.

Not have to sit isle seat at games and events.

Not be ashamed when someone sits next to me on the bus.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
