Took Emend ( nausea ) 0230

Checked in 0530

Surgery 0630

Wok up 0915

Not nauseous ( due to Emend )

Walked, chatted with nurses and doctor.

Check out 1345 ( 145p )

Been home almost 7 hours. Slight pain where drain is - have been walking dogs and made dinner for my family !!!

Nurse had this surgery and we compared notes about Emend ! We both went home the same day as surgery. I'm not a sales rep for Emend - however, I hate the nauseous feeling and this is the best !!!

So happy for me and for everyone on this journey ... thank you guys and gals support !!!

Congratulations on being "over and done". I hope you heal well and fast. Surgery is so much easier without the nausea. Nice you got in and out and safely home so fast. Now drink, drink and walk!

Wow! Checked out of the hospital 7 1/2 hours after sleeve surgery and went home. Is this common?

Truth. Staying over was never a plan. I'm a cash patient and the surgical center where it was done ( on the grounds of a hospital ) doesn't have sleep overs. Dr Cottam has been doing the surgeries at this location for 12 years. As long as the Emend is taken prior to surgery and a good anesthesiologist is good - yes. I walk my dogs a mile every other hour. I take 1/2 pain med every 3-4 hours but I'm good. I have a drain bag attached I empty out - but overall I feel great !!!

It's amazing there are so many different 'procedures' for the same 'procedure' some don't have a 2 week diet some go home same day, I'm surprised there isn't more regulations on the surgeries.

I asked several doctors about this actually

I was on a pre op Clear Liquids for 1 week. He said its asked on your percentage. Higher % longer liquid diet Going home also depends on the anesthesiast ( spelling ). He spoke w me for 30 minutes before surgery explaining everyone and getting to know everything about me. They have lots of before surgery nausea pills - and when I had a lumpectomy 3 years earlier I got really sick - so he gave me a different dose of things during surgery. There were 9 people in the operating room 5 were from the anesthesiast office. I was groggy but not sick. I haven't needed any of the pills except for 2 pain pills so far

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
