Just wondering how tired everyone is with the food restrictions. I know that when I was on Bernstien's, eating mostly Protein, vegetables, a piece of fruit, a slice of bread....all low in carbs & adding up to approx 500 calories, I was dragging. I got B6 & 12 shots as well as a Multivitamin & potassium but I was very tired. Can anyone please tell me how they felt right after they had their sleeve & the weeks that came after, including when you got on the "portions & food types you should try to follow for life"?

@@More than this

I've been where I plan to stay, meal-wise, for about a year. I made myself very ill several months after surgery and ended up letting people down because I was too ill to be with my siblings when my father passed. I was in a hospital ICU because my body was too depleted and weak to fight off a common cold. I've learned from this. Over-restricting not only sets you up for weigh-loss stalls/fails, it leaves the body vulnerable. Have you reviewed your diet with a NUT?

I haven't had the surgery yet & will be speaking with her a week before. I am heading out of town, from Calgary all the way to Montreal to get mine done. We are behind the times here, when it comes to wls. Wait times are over a year & the hoops you have to jump thru are ridiculous.... & in the end, you may still not qualify. So I have done lots of research & taken control instead of waiting. Mind you it has zeroed out all my savings, as it is thru a private health clinic, but I am very fortunate I could do that. Thanks for the heads up in regards to trying to speed things up by cutting out more food...it doesn't work...something I know from regular dieting. I just wanted to hear from veterans who actually went thru the process, on how it was for them...so this is the reason for my post. Thanks so much for your honesty & getting back to me. I really appreciate it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
